The first production-era look at Jared Leto in Tron: Ares showed him suited up as Ares, a sophisticated digital Program. The film has since been released: it follows Ares as he crosses from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, in what Disney describes as humanity’s first encounter with AI beings.
Who is Jared Leto in Tron: Ares?
Leto plays Ares, a digital Program sent into the human world. Disney’s UK press kit describes the story as a dangerous mission that brings a Program across from the digital world; Disney’s film page frames the encounter as humanity’s first with AI beings.
The image that prompted the first-look announcement was a production-era reveal, not a new casting announcement or a preview of an upcoming release. Disney announced that filming had begun in Vancouver and described a planned 2025 release. The film is a follow-up to TRON (1982) and TRON: Legacy (2010), as the company explained in its production announcement.
Who directed it, and who is in the cast?
Joachim Rønning directed Tron: Ares. Disney’s official film listing names Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, and Jeff Bridges in the cast.

What is the film’s release history?
The production announcement’s 2025 date was a plan at the time, not a current schedule. Disney’s UK press kit lists October 10, 2025, as the UK cinema date, and Disney Japan lists the same date for its Japanese theatrical release. Those dates apply to their respective territories; availability elsewhere may differ.
At San Diego Comic-Con in July 2025, Rønning told the Associated Press, “It’s fun to see it on the big screen for the first time.” The remark appears in the AP’s Comic-Con coverage.

Where can you watch Tron: Ares?
Disney’s official movie page includes Disney+ information. Disney Japan’s film and distribution page lists digital distribution, Blu-ray, and DVD. These listings establish viewing formats in those contexts, but they do not guarantee current streaming access, retailer stock, or identical availability in every country. Check Disney+ and local retailers for current territory-specific options.

Nine Inch Nails composed the score. Disney UK’s trailer and music announcement identifies “As Alive As You Need Me To Be” as the soundtrack’s first single. That announcement confirms the score and single; it does not establish a physical soundtrack edition.
