Jordan Chiles and professional partner Ezra Sosa opened the Dancing With the Stars Season 34 premiere on September 16, 2025, with a salsa to Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul.” Judges Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli each scored the routine 5 out of 10, for a combined 10/20.
What did Jordan Chiles do on premiere night?
Chiles performed first in the Season 34 premiere, dancing with pro Ezra Sosa. Their routine was a salsa set to “Break My Soul,” from Beyoncé’s Renaissance. ABC’s official performance listing confirms the pairing, dance style, and song: ABC’s premiere salsa video.
ABC introduced Chiles as an Olympic gold medalist and paired her with Sosa in its Season 34 announcement. The episode aired live on ABC and Disney+ on September 16, 2025, with next-day availability on Hulu, according to ABC’s season announcement.
How did the judges score the salsa?
TVInsider reported that Hough gave the performance 5/10 and Tonioli also gave it 5/10, making the combined score 10/20. Hough praised the flips and tricks but advised Sosa to keep the choreography grounded in salsa. Tonioli pointed to wobbly dismounts and encouraged Chiles to carry hip motion through her body instead of stopping at a pose. TVInsider’s premiere recap reports the scores and feedback.

TVLine also listed the routine at 10/20. Its recap described Chiles’s athleticism and enthusiasm as evident, while noting moments of wobble; that is TVLine’s assessment, rather than a separate measurement of the performance. Read TVLine’s recap.
What was the main challenge in Chiles’s first dance?
The feedback centered on translating gymnastics power into the continuous movement and style expected in salsa. Flips and tricks showcased athletic ability, but judges also wanted grounded salsa choreography, steadier landings, and hip action that traveled through the body. On a premiere-night routine, those points explain why the score reflected more than the difficulty of the tricks.

Chiles’s performance took place in the Season 34 premiere in 2025. It is distinct from Season 35’s 2026 Night One, which ABC’s press materials describe as the male celebrities’ competition debut. “Night 1” here refers to Chiles’s September 16, 2025 premiere performance, not the later season’s opening event.
