Johnny Wactor, best known for playing Brando Corbin on General Hospital, was 37 when he was fatally shot in downtown Los Angeles on May 25, 2024. Prosecutors alleged that he encountered men attempting to steal a catalytic converter from his parked car. Two men charged with murder were still facing the case at the latest sourced update, in June 2025; the sources reviewed here do not establish its final outcome as of October 8, 2026.
What happened to Johnny Wactor?
Wactor was shot at about 3:25 a.m. on May 25, 2024, near Hope Street and Pico Boulevard in downtown Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said he encountered three men suspected of trying to steal the catalytic converter from his car. Prosecutors alleged that Robert Barceleau shot Wactor once in the chest. Wactor later died at a hospital, according to the District Attorney’s Office. The office announced the charges and its account of the incident on August 19, 2024.
Those details about the attempted theft and the shooting are prosecution allegations, not findings of guilt. The Associated Press reported that Wactor had played Brando Corbin on General Hospital from 2020 to 2022 and was 37. The AP’s report also quoted his agent, David Shaul, who called Wactor “a real moral example to everyone who knew him.”
Who was charged, and what happened in court?
Prosecutors announced charges against four defendants in August 2024. The cases did not all involve the same alleged conduct or lead to the same outcome.
