A lip-reader reportedly interpreted a brief exchange between Catherine, Princess of Wales, and Prince Louis during Trooping the Colour on June 14, 2025, as a correction during the national anthem. The exchange was not confirmed by an official transcript or independently verifiable audio, so the words should be treated as an interpretation—not a verified quotation.
What was reported about the balcony exchange?
In a report published June 16, 2025, AOL said a lip-reader interpreted Catherine as correcting Louis while the national anthem was being played. The report’s account depends on reading a brief visual exchange; it does not establish the exact words or independently confirm what prompted the interaction. AOL’s report
That distinction matters: the footage may show people’s visible movements, but without clear audio or a transcript, it cannot verify the conversation. It is accurate to say a lip-reader said Catherine appeared to correct Louis; it is not accurate to present the alleged words as something she is known to have said.
Which event was it?
The reported moment was during Trooping the Colour on June 14, 2025, when Catherine and her children took part in the annual ceremony. The Royal Family’s official event report documents that year’s parade.

Trooping the Colour marks the Sovereign’s official birthday. The ceremony ends with an RAF fly-past watched by members of the Royal Family from the Buckingham Palace balcony, according to the Royal Family’s event explainer. The household setting explains why the family was on the balcony; it does not verify what anyone said during the anthem.
How is this different from Prince Louis’s 2022 viral moment?
Louis’s widely shared balcony appearance during the Platinum Jubilee in 2022 was a separate occasion. News coverage then focused on his visible reactions, including sticking his tongue out at his mother. ABC News’ coverage concerns that earlier event, not the reported 2025 exchange.
