There is no official answer to “Is Saitama stronger than Goku?” They belong to separate franchises, and the available official sources establish neither a crossover fight nor a creator-approved winner. The fairest verdict is conditional: Saitama has the stronger case if his premise of overwhelming strength is treated as decisive; Goku has a plausible case if the matchup prioritizes a specified version’s combat abilities and experience.
Why no definitive winner is established
A cross-franchise matchup needs rules before it can have a meaningful result. The stories do not provide a shared power scale, and comparing a scene from one continuity or point in a character’s story with a different version of the other can change the debate. Even the win condition matters: a knockout, incapacitation, death, or a comedic ending are not interchangeable outcomes.
VIZ, the English publisher of One-Punch Man, frames Saitama as a hero who became so strong that he cannot find a worthy opponent. That describes the series premise, not a measured upper limit or a promise that he wins every imagined crossover. The VIZ series description captures the joke: “Life gets pretty boring when you can beat the snot out of any villain with just one punch.”
For a concrete manga reference, VIZ’s One-Punch Man, Vol. 34 synopsis places Saitama’s fight with Garou in outer space and says their clash threatens the world. That supports Saitama’s extraordinary portrayal in his own story; it does not establish how he compares with Goku.

Goku’s case likewise depends on which continuity and point in his story a debate selects. The Dragon Ball Official Site’s character feature illustrates how the franchise presents its characters through story arcs, training, abilities, and escalating confrontations, but that page profiles Gohan and does not establish Goku’s current power or a Saitama comparison.
Seven conditional reasons Saitama could win
These are arguments for a debate, not seven independently verified feats proving a crossover result. The clearest official evidence here is VIZ’s premise and its synopsis of the Garou fight.

- His premise is built around overwhelming strength. VIZ describes Saitama as unable to find a worthy opponent. If the matchup treats that premise as a rule rather than a comedic setup, it favors him.
- His manga portrayal reaches beyond ordinary terrestrial combat. VIZ’s Vol. 34 synopsis describes his clash with Garou in outer space and as a threat to the world. That is a striking portrayal, though not a direct comparison to Goku.
- Understatement is part of how his story presents power. The contrast between Saitama’s ordinary appearance and the extraordinary strength at the center of the series can make his simple interventions decisive—if the matchup carries over the series’ comedic framing.
- His lack of a worthy rival can favor him under premise-based rules. If a debate treats the absence of a rival in his story as meaningful evidence rather than tone, that helps his side. It still does not provide a shared numerical scale.
- His case can rest on the manga’s portrayal, not fan rankings. A reader can point to published story material, including the Vol. 34 synopsis, instead of relying on unsourced power scores. Those sources describe Saitama, not a verdict against Goku.
- His fight with Garou gives the debate a technique-versus-strength angle. The volume synopsis identifies Garou as Saitama’s opponent, but does not provide enough detail to claim exactly how Saitama responds to every technique. A more specific argument needs the manga itself as evidence.
- A gag ending could favor him. If the agreed rules allow the joke of an abruptly ended fight to decide the outcome, Saitama may win by the logic of his series. That is an interpretive choice, not a canon crossover result.
Seven conditional reasons Goku could win
These are plausible categories for a Goku-side argument, not seven claims established by the official Gohan feature cited above. To make any of them a demonstrated advantage, a debate must name the Goku continuity and point in the story, then support the claim from that version’s primary material.
- Martial arts experience. A version-specific argument could compare Goku’s experience across fights, but it should identify the relevant opponents and story material rather than rely on reputation alone.
- Transformations. Goku’s case may depend on a particular form and continuity. “Goku” without those details is not a precise matchup specification.
- Ki-based attacks and defense. These can form part of a versatility argument when the selected story source demonstrates the particular application being discussed.
- Flight and ranged combat. A Goku-side case can consider how fighting at range affects the matchup, provided the chosen version’s story material supports the claim.
- Tactical adaptation. A debate may argue that Goku adjusts during extended fights, but it should ground that point in identified scenes rather than treating it as an automatic win condition.
- Training across different conditions. Goku’s training history can be relevant to preparation and technique; the argument still needs to specify which events and version count.
- Experience with unusual abilities. A history of facing unusual opponents could support a claim about adaptability, but it does not prove he can counter an ability or premise that has not been tested against him.
How to make the matchup fair
Before choosing a winner, agree on the assumptions. Otherwise, one side may be arguing from story feats while the other is arguing from genre, comedy, or a different continuity.

Where to read Saitama’s manga portrayal
VIZ lists One-Punch Man, Vol. 34 as a paperback with ISBN 978-1-9747-6652-9 and describes the Saitama–Garou conflict. The listing gives a release date of September 15, 2026, and names retailers including Amazon; check the listing for current availability and retailer terms. It is useful source material for Saitama’s portrayal, not evidence of a fight with Goku.
