Wilmer Valderrama’s comments about hoping Torres makes it through a major shakeup have fueled the speculation, but they are not a casting announcement. CBS and Paramount’s current NCIS page lists Torres among the Season 24 agents, which premiered October 6, 2026.
Why viewers are asking whether Torres is leaving
The speculation starts with the Season 23 finale. Torres confronted Mateo Garcia, the adult son Timothy McGee had only recently discovered. Mateo had given conflicting accounts and was suspected of secretly accessing an NCIS computer. The confrontation moved out of view; then a gunshot sounded. The episode did not reveal who had been shot.

That unresolved ending puts Torres in immediate danger, but danger in a cliffhanger is not proof that a character is departing the series. Sean Murray, who plays McGee, told TheWrap that the moment left several relationships and outcomes in play: “What does it do to Mateo? What does it do to Torres and McGee’s relationship? A lot of stuff’s at stake here.”
What Wilmer Valderrama’s comments do—and don’t—confirm
In comments reported by Us Weekly, Valderrama described major changes and additions ahead and said he could only hope Torres made it out alive. That language helps explain why fans connect the tease to Torres, but it expresses uncertainty about the story, not an announcement that the actor or character is leaving.

Us Weekly also reported that showrunner Steven D. Binder said someone was hit, while ruling out death as the outcome. The reporting did not settle the injury’s identity or what consequences the gunshot would have. Valderrama said he did not think the writers had yet decided what the shot would mean for Torres.
What is confirmed about Torres in Season 24
The current CBS/Paramount NCIS page includes Special Agent Nicholas “Nick” Torres in its Season 24 cast listing, alongside Timothy McGee, Jessica Knight, and Alden Parker. It lists the season premiere as October 6, 2026. That is stronger evidence of his current status than an actor’s speculative tease, though a cast listing does not disclose what happens in a particular episode or rule out a future change.
The page identifies CBS broadcast and Paramount+ streaming as the season’s distribution options. Paramount+ access timing depends on the viewer’s plan; check the service’s current terms and availability in your territory.
How to read the cliffhanger
- Established: Torres confronted Mateo, and the finale ended with a gunshot off-screen.
- Not established: The finale did not show who was hit, and the available reporting does not confirm a Torres departure.
- Current cast status: CBS/Paramount lists Torres in Season 24.
- Best interpretation: The show is teasing serious consequences and a possible shakeup, not confirming an exit.
Where to watch the relevant season
CBS and Paramount+ are the distribution options identified on the official NCIS page for Season 24, with streaming access dependent on plan. For Season 23, Prime Video’s season page lists HD purchase or access through a Paramount+ trial. Catalogs and terms can vary by territory and change over time.
