Prince Alwaleed bin Talal ordered a VIP Airbus A380 in 2007, but the order was reported cancelled in 2015 before the aircraft’s custom cabin was designed or installed. The often-repeated $500 million figure is not a confirmed amount he paid. The record supports a proposed private A380—not a completed flying palace.

What Prince Alwaleed actually ordered

On November 12, 2007, Airbus announced that Alwaleed had signed a firm order for an A380 Flying Palace, making him the first customer for the airliner’s VIP version. The company described the aircraft as offering 551 m² (5,930 ft²) of floor area, which it called 50% more floorspace than the largest aircraft at the time. Airbus’s announcement also said the cabin would be outfitted at a completion center that had not yet been selected.

Rolls-Royce announced the same day that Trent 900 engines would power the VIP A380, with delivery expected in 2010. That was the plan announced in 2007, not evidence that the plane was delivered. Rolls-Royce’s announcement describes the proposed engine and schedule.

Was the A380 ever completed as a private jet?

No completed private A380 for Alwaleed is established by the available record. On February 5, 2015, Aviation International News reported that Airbus had cancelled its only VVIP A380 order. It also reported that Alwaleed had never followed up with cabin interior design and installation.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

That status matters: an order for an aircraft and a completed, personalized cabin are not the same thing. The cabin outfitting was still undecided in Airbus’s 2007 announcement, and the later cancellation account says the design and installation never proceeded.

Where did the $500 million figure come from?

The evidence cited here does not establish that Alwaleed paid $500 million. Gulf News reported on November 12, 2007 that Airbus executive John Leahy put the deal at about $319 million, including engines but excluding interiors. The cabin had not yet been decided, so that contemporaneous figure was not an all-in price for a finished private jet. Gulf News’s report records the price estimate and its exclusions.

The $500 million figure is best treated as a commonly repeated headline estimate, not a verified final bill. The 2015 report of cancellation before cabin design and installation makes it especially misleading to present that sum as the established cost of a delivered, fully fitted aircraft.

Were the rumored luxury features built?

Claims about a Turkish bath, concert hall, garage, horse or camel stable, golden throne, and similar features should not be described as amenities in Alwaleed’s aircraft. They may be associated with imagined concepts, renderings, or repeated accounts, but the cancellation report says the cabin design and installation did not go ahead. There is no basis in these sources for treating those features as built.

What Alwaleed said about flying privately

In an interview published by Okaz on December 25, 2014, and later republished on his website, Alwaleed said that his private jet carried an additional pilot on same-day trips because aviation rules would not permit one pilot to fly continuously for long hours. He said he could sleep aboard and spent much of the remaining time reading. Those remarks concern his private flying generally; the interview does not identify the aircraft as the proposed A380. The interview as republished by Alwaleed’s website provides his first-person account, not evidence of the A380’s cabin or delivery.
