Reba McEntire described her bond with Brandon Blackstock as “precious” and said she loved him as her own son. She first met him when he was about four, later helped raise him and his siblings, and continued to call him family after her marriage to his father ended. In an October 2025 interview, she said he was “sorely missed.”
How was Reba McEntire related to Brandon Blackstock?
McEntire became Brandon’s stepmother through her marriage to his father, music manager Narvel Blackstock. The couple married in 1989 and divorced in 2015, according to the Associated Press. Brandon was Narvel’s son from a prior relationship. McEntire and Narvel also had a son, Shelby.
That family connection was more than a label in McEntire’s account. She said she first met Brandon when he was around four. By the time she married Narvel, Brandon was about 13 or 14. “Along with his mom and dad, I helped raise him,” she recalled, naming Brandon’s sisters Shawna and Chassidy and her son Shelby as the other children she helped raise. Those ages and memories come from McEntire’s interview excerpt with PEOPLE, reported by iHeartCountry on October 22, 2025.
Did McEntire consider Brandon her son?
Yes. McEntire said, “My relationship with my stepson, Brandon Blackstock, was precious. I absolutely love that child.” She went on to say, “And they were my kids. And I absolutely love all four of them,” referring to Brandon, Shawna, Chassidy and Shelby. She described the siblings as close and said Brandon was “sorely missed.”
