Plummer married actor Tammy Grimes in 1956. They had one daughter, Amanda Plummer, who became an actor. The Guardian reports that the marriage ended in divorce in 1960.
The Guardian’s obituary of Christopher Plummer, published on February 6, 2021, records the marriage, their daughter, and the divorce. It does not establish a reason for their separation.
Patricia Lewis: his second marriage
In 1962, Plummer married Patricia Lewis, whom the Guardian identifies as a British entertainment journalist. The couple divorced five years later, in 1967. The Irish Times obituary also reports that Plummer’s first two marriages ended in divorce.

Neither obituary provides a substantiated explanation for the end of this marriage. The dates and Lewis’s occupation are documented; a fuller account of the couple’s private relationship is not established by these sources.
Elaine Taylor: his third marriage
Plummer married actor Elaine Taylor in 1970. They remained married until his death in 2021. The Guardian gives the marriage year, while The Independent’s obituary, published on February 6, 2021, describes Taylor as his surviving third wife.

Plummer spoke warmly of Taylor in public. In its February 7, 2021 obituary, The Irish Times reproduced his words from his Oscar acceptance speech: “My long-suffering wife Elaine,” he called her, in closing his Oscar acceptance speech, “who deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for coming to my rescue every day of my life.” This is a public expression of affection, not evidence about the private details of their marriage.

The obituaries support a straightforward chronology: Grimes (1956–1960), Lewis (1962–1967), and Taylor (married in 1970, together until Plummer’s death in 2021). They identify Amanda Plummer as the daughter of Plummer and Grimes. They do not provide enough evidence to explain the first two divorces or to reconstruct the private dynamics of any marriage.
