News reports say she later attributed a T9 compression-fracture diagnosis to a doctor, but no medical records or clinician confirmation were available in the reporting reviewed.

News coverage describes the challenge as posing in high heels while balancing, with the pose said to be inspired by Nicki Minaj’s 2013 “High School” music video. That origin is attributed to the reports; no direct statement from Minaj establishing the challenge’s origin was identified.
How did Mariana Barutkina fall?
E! reported on August 5, 2025, that Barutkina attempted the pose and fell backward from a kitchen counter. AllHipHop’s August 6 report described household objects in the setup: a container of baby formula balanced on a saucepan on the counter. These details come from coverage of her social-media posts, rather than independent verification.
What injury did she report?
E! reported that Barutkina said a doctor diagnosed her with a T9 compression fracture. E! reported that Barutkina later said she and her child were doing well and that she was following guidance. The outlet reproduced this wording from her post: “I’m doing great, following the guidelines and now living in ‘star’ status.” It is her personal update, not a medical prognosis.
What is known about the challenge’s risks?
The reported setup involved both an elevated countertop and household objects used for balancing. A fall from height and an unstable surface are evident hazards in that particular account, but the coverage does not establish how often injuries occur during this challenge or provide a measured risk estimate. The reporting supports a straightforward takeaway: attempting a balancing pose in heels on a counter, especially with improvised objects, can create a fall hazard. That observation is about the described setup, not a claim that all versions of the challenge carry the same risk.
