Police described separate booking allegations and said the case would be sent to prosecutors for filing consideration; the arrest announcement alone does not establish that charges were filed or that either suspect was guilty. In June 2026, a report said a civil suit brought by one of the arrested men against Ziering had been dismissed with prejudice, a separate development from the criminal investigation.
What happened, according to police
The LAPD places the incident at about 3 p.m. on December 31, 2023, on the 6800 block of Hollywood Boulevard in the Hollywood Entertainment District. Its account says a confrontation began over possible damage to a motorist’s vehicle. Three or four additional minibike riders then joined in, and one was captured swinging an object at the motorist. Police said the vehicle was vandalized while the motorist’s ten-year-old child remained in the front seat. Neither the motorist nor the child sustained serious injuries, according to the department.
The police release did not name the motorist. ABC7 identified him as Ziering and reported that he had been driving with his daughter. In a statement posted on Instagram and quoted by ABC7, Ziering said, “In an attempt to assess any damage I exited my car,” and added, “This action, unfortunately, escalated into a physical altercation, which I navigated to protect myself.”
The sources also describe competing accounts of how the confrontation unfolded. MyNewsLA’s 2026 report quoted Ziering’s sworn declaration saying, “After I exited my vehicle, I was attacked by several 605 Gang members.” The same report summarized Hernandez’s civil complaint as alleging that Ziering exited his car and shoved Hernandez before a melee. These are attributed accounts, not findings that resolve the disputed sequence.

Who was arrested and what were the allegations?
On May 21, 2024, LAPD said detectives served warrants at two residences and arrested Jacob Esteban Hernandez, then 20, of Rosemead, and Angie Teresa Guizar, then 40, of Los Angeles. The department reported these bookings:
| Person | Booking allegation reported by LAPD | Bail reported by LAPD |
|---|---|---|
| Jacob Esteban Hernandez | Felony vandalism | $50,000 |
| Angie Teresa Guizar | Assault with a deadly weapon | $30,000 |
These are allegations recorded at booking, not convictions. LAPD said it would present the case to the District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration. That statement is not confirmation that prosecutors filed charges.

What is known about the criminal case?
The reviewed reports do not establish the official criminal filing outcome for both people arrested. MyNewsLA’s June 2026 account says Hernandez was arrested in May 2024 but never charged, attributing that point to the civil complaint. That report does not establish the outcome for Guizar, so it would be inaccurate to treat the two cases as having the same documented status.
LAPD said video and witness information helped investigators, stating: “These videos and additional information provided by witnesses were crucial to the investigation.” That describes the department’s investigative account; it is not a court finding.

What happened in the civil suit?
MyNewsLA reported in June 2026 that Hernandez’s civil suit against Ziering was dismissed with prejudice. The report said the litigation ended without a damages recovery. This is a reported civil-case outcome; it does not decide the criminal investigation or settle every disputed account of the December 2023 incident.
