She walked onto the pitch with UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin and helped hand medals to England’s winning team.
Who was the girl beside Prince William?
UEFA identified her as Greta, who was 12 at the time of the final. She was born in Portugal and lives in Switzerland, where she is a member of PluSport, an association that organizes sporting opportunities for disabled people. UEFA reports that Greta lives with Dravet syndrome, a form of epilepsy.
Her appearance was part of a UEFA Foundation for Children initiative, not a royal invitation. UEFA says that at each UEFA final in 2025, a child invited by the Foundation accompanied the UEFA president onto the pitch during the winners’ ceremony. At the Women’s EURO final in Basel, Greta joined Čeferin and helped present medals to England’s players.
What did Greta say about the experience?
UEFA published Greta’s account of the ceremony: “I was nervous at first, but then I saw the players smiling at me. It felt like I was part of their team.”

Her words describe the moment from her perspective: an initially nerve-racking experience that became welcoming when the players smiled at her. UEFA presents the invitation within its wider inclusion work; it does not say Greta was chosen because of her diagnosis.
How did the Foundation involve children at the tournament?
Greta’s on-pitch role was one of several participation formats UEFA described for Women’s EURO 2025. The figures below are UEFA’s reported tournament figures, not independently audited measures, and they refer to different activities rather than to Greta personally.

UEFA’s wider account of the Foundation, published in June 2025, said it had supported 577 projects across 138 countries and reached nearly 5 million people during its first decade. Those are Foundation-wide figures, not measures of the EURO initiative alone.

The UEFA Foundation for Children supports projects intended to improve children’s lives, including through sport. UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin said the Foundation’s work sends “a strong message that millions of children around the world need help, and we must not leave them behind.” Carine N’Koué, the Foundation’s general secretary, has described sport—especially football—as a way to bring communities together, promote health and teach life skills.
