The Hyatt Regency Perth stopped operating as a Hyatt-managed hotel on 31 August 2024, after a reported 36 years in Hyatt’s global portfolio. The address did not cease to be a hotel: a new operation, Residence on Langley Park, began welcoming guests there the next day. The change was a management and brand transition, not a permanent closure of the property.
What happened to the Hyatt Regency Perth?
On 28 June 2024, owner Tuan Sing Holdings announced that the Hyatt Regency Perth would cease to be a Hyatt-managed hotel on 31 August. The company said it would reposition and rebrand the property as part of its long-term strategy to expand its hospitality business. Its announcement and the subsequent Singapore Exchange filing record the end of the hotel management agreements; they do not identify a more specific cause, such as financial difficulty, poor performance or a dispute. (Tuan Sing announcement, 28 June 2024; Singapore Exchange filing, 1 July 2024.)
The “36 years” refers to the reported length of the Hyatt-era association. PerthNow described the hotel as welcoming guests for 36 years, and 7NEWS reported that it joined Hyatt’s global portfolio in 1988. That does not independently establish when the building first opened. (PerthNow, 1 July 2024.)
When did Hyatt Regency Perth close?
- 28 June 2024: Tuan Sing announced the planned end of Hyatt management and the property’s repositioning and rebranding.
- 1 July 2024: The owner’s filing recorded termination of the hotel management agreements, and news reports described the planned closure.
- 31 August 2024: Hyatt management ended at the property.
- 1 September 2024: Residence on Langley Park began business at the same address.
The “shock closure” language came from contemporaneous news coverage. In practical terms, Hyatt’s operation ended on the announced date, followed immediately by a successor hospitality operation. (Tuan Sing announcement; Residence on Langley Park launch announcement.)

What is at 99 Adelaide Terrace now?
Residence on Langley Park began welcoming guests at 99 Adelaide Terrace on 1 September 2024, according to its owner’s launch announcement. It is the successor operation at the former Hyatt site, not a Hyatt-branded hotel. (Tuan Sing / Grand Hotel Group, 6 August 2024.)
A later, dated snapshot provides some detail about the transition: Tuan Sing’s FY2024 AGM presentation, published in April 2025, described Residence on Langley Park as a 367-room property and said 42 rooms had been converted into serviced apartments by early 2025. Those figures describe the property at that point, not a verified room inventory or accommodation mix for October 2026. (Tuan Sing Holdings, FY2024 AGM presentation, 25 April 2025.)

What did the change mean for guests and staff?
At the time of the announcement, the hotel said it would contact customers with affected bookings and explore onward job opportunities for associates. Those were stated support plans; the contemporaneous report does not confirm what happened to any particular guest’s booking or employee’s role. (PerthNow, 1 July 2024.)

The available sources do not establish why Tuan Sing ended the Hyatt management agreements beyond its stated plan to reposition and rebrand the site. Market statistics offer context, not an explanation: the Australian Hotels Association (WA) reported Perth hotel occupancy of 77.3% in May 2024, the highest among Australian capital cities that month, compared with 69.4% in May 2023. The association’s figures do not show that market conditions caused the owner’s decision. (Australian Hotels Association (WA), 1 July 2024.)
