What sold, and for how much?
The auction result was US$525,000 including the buyer’s premium, according to the Associated Press’s July 18, 2025 report. That is the total paid by the winning bidder as reported by AP, not a hammer price before the premium. The buyer was not publicly identified.
PerthNow reported the result as $809,000, alongside a different reported figure for another lot in the same sale. Those amounts appear to be Australian-dollar equivalents; AP’s clearly stated US-dollar figure is the comparable result to use.
How was the whip connected to Princess Diana?
Heritage Auctions says Harrison Ford presented the whip to then-Prince Charles at the 1989 London Royal Charity Premiere of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Heritage says it later passed from Charles to Princess Diana and eventually came to the auction house from a confidential consignor. The buyer and consignor were not named in the public accounts.

Heritage said a Lucasfilm Ltd. letter addressed to St. James’s Palace confirmed the whip’s origin and presentation. The auction house’s account supports the provenance chain, but the private ownership history should be understood as Heritage’s description of the lot.
Was it really used in an Indiana Jones film?
Heritage described the object as a hand-braided, 12-foot David Morgan kangaroo-leather bullwhip used in the climactic Holy Grail Temple sequence of The Last Crusade. The film-use claim is also reported by AP.

Heritage said Indiana Jones whip expert Daniel Borton matched the whip to close-up footage using details such as its curvature, plaiting pattern, the placement of a two-pass turk’s head knot, and an exposed leather strand below the knot. Heritage characterized its condition as good production-used condition, with studio-applied weathering as well as natural wear. These screen-match and condition assessments are the auction house’s claims about the lot.

The sold object was a leather film prop with a documented connection to the production and a screen match described by Heritage. It is not interchangeable with licensed role-play merchandise. Hasbro’s F8036 Action-Crackin’ Whip is a soft toy more than three feet long, intended for ages 5 and up, with snap-and-retract action; it is not a leather bullwhip, screen-matched prop, or replica of the auction item.
