Hugh Grant plays Mr. Reed, a seemingly harmless man whose meeting with two Mormon missionaries takes a sinister turn.
What the final Heretic trailer reveals
Sister Barnes, played by Sophie Thatcher, and Sister Paxton, played by Chloe East, visit Mr. Reed to talk about Mormonism. The trailer makes clear that he has other plans for the encounter. Rather than spelling out what those plans are, it frames the conflict around belief and disbelief and offers glimpses of the environments the missionaries enter, including a basement.

Grant’s Mr. Reed asks, “Have you figured it out yet?” The question reinforces the trailer’s puzzle-like mood without resolving what the characters—or the audience—are meant to figure out.
How spoiler-heavy is it?
Germain Lussier’s October 8, 2024 Gizmodo coverage describes the final trailer as more revealing than its predecessor: it gives viewers more of the setup and locations. But it does not disclose the film’s central secrets. The available account does not provide a shot-by-shot comparison, so the distinction is broad rather than a scene-by-scene spoiler guide. What the film is about
Heretic uses the missionaries’ visit as a way into questions about The Book of Mormon and religion more broadly. Scott Beck and Bryan Woods wrote and directed the film. The trailer suggests that the conversation about faith is bound up with danger, but leaves the meaning and outcome of that confrontation open.
