Donald Trump called Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX halftime performance “absolutely terrible” in a social media post on February 8, 2026. He objected to its Spanish lyrics and dancing; those comments were his opinion, not an objective account of the performance or a measure of viewers’ reactions.
What Trump said about Bad Bunny’s halftime show
In a post reported by ABC News, Trump described the show as “one of the worst, EVER” and a “slap in the face” to the country. He wrote that it “makes no sense” and said viewers would not understand the Spanish lyrics. He also called the dancing “disgusting.” These are Trump’s criticisms; they do not establish how audiences responded.

What happened during the performance
Bad Bunny performed the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show on February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The NFL’s official announcement named him as the performer and identified Apple Music, the NFL and Roc Nation as event partners.
The Associated Press described the set as 13 minutes long. Its account reports a roll call of North, South and Central American nations, a procession of flags, and appearances by Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin. The performance included the Spanish line “Mi Patria Puerto Rico, seguimos aquí,” translated by AP as “My homeland Puerto Rico, we are still here.” It ended with the message “The only thing more powerful than hate is love,” displayed on a football and the scoreboard. AP’s coverage reports these details.

ABC News’ description also notes Puerto Rican cultural references, including a sugar-cane-field set and a shaved-ice stand known as a piragua, within a predominantly Spanish collection of Bad Bunny’s songs.
Why the NFL selected Bad Bunny
Before the show, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell defended the choice, saying, “It’s carefully thought through,” and describing Bad Bunny as “one of the leading and most popular entertainers in the world.” Those remarks state the league’s rationale; they do not explain Trump’s personal reasons for criticizing the performance. The NFL’s report quotes Goodell.

How to read the disagreement
Trump’s post focused on the Spanish-language lyrics, the dancing and what he said the show represented. The reported performance details provide context: it drew on Puerto Rican imagery, featured guest performers and included a message about love overcoming hate. The contrast between those details and Trump’s description is the central disagreement; his evaluative terms should remain attributed to him.
