Writer-director Hallie Meyers-Shyer had been developing it since 2018, wrote Andy Goodrich with Michael Keaton in mind, and built the story around a city Keaton could work in while staying at home.
What the 25 days actually covered
The 25 days refer to the film’s shoot in Los Angeles, according to the Associated Press’s 2024 report. They do not describe the full production process or the time between the film’s conception and release. Meyers-Shyer said she wrote Goodrich in 2018; the film came out in 2024, a span she called “a really long process.” Associated Press

Why this production could work in Los Angeles
Location was a practical part of the story behind the short shoot. The production filmed in Los Angeles, where Keaton could wake up in his own bed, and Meyers-Shyer wanted to make an LA movie in the city it depicts. She said, “It’s nice to bring some business back to Los Angeles and I’m really proud of the fact that we got to shoot an LA movie in LA,” adding that “LA is hard to fake. It’s a very special, unique place.” Associated Press
Keaton was part of the project from the writing stage
Meyers-Shyer wrote Andy Goodrich, an art gallery owner at a crossroads, with Keaton in mind. In a 2024 promotional Q&A, she confirmed that the film was written specifically for him and said she had wanted to work with him, believing he could handle both the character’s comedy and drama. Keaton joined as star and executive producer. Verified r/movies AMA Associated Press

Keaton has also described the screenplay as the draw. In a Moviefone interview, he said, “This is really good writing. I just really enjoy this,” and said that after one or two meetings with Meyers-Shyer he was more inclined to take the role. Moviefone
Kunis and Keaton had little time together before filming
The Associated Press reported that Kunis and Keaton essentially met once before cameras rolled: they had dinner with Meyers-Shyer, who thought they would work well together. The report says neither actor was particularly concerned about their limited pre-shoot time because they trusted the script. That account establishes the brief meeting, not that the actors skipped rehearsal or relied on improvisation.

Kunis praised the screenplay’s naturalism: “Hallie’s writing was so honest and genuine and never felt forced.” She added that the relationships and character dynamic felt real. Associated Press

The reported facts offer a grounded explanation for how the film came together: it was a locally shot Los Angeles production, Keaton was already closely connected to the role, and the cast had confidence in Meyers-Shyer’s script. They do not establish a specific scheduling method that made 25 days possible. The AP report does not give the shooting calendar, number of locations, crew size, budget, or a scene-by-scene account, so attributing the schedule to a particular tactic would go beyond what has been reported.
