Ryan Reynolds publicly responded to Paul Mullin’s June 2025 loan move from Wrexham to Wigan with affection and gratitude. He said he could not imagine Mullin “on loan and in another kit,” praised his “heart, skill and work ethic,” and added, “We love you.” Those reported remarks show Reynolds’s public appreciation; they do not establish his private feelings or reveal any private conversation between the two.
What did Ryan Reynolds say about Paul Mullin leaving Wrexham?
In a social-media tribute reported by BBC Sport on 24 June 2025, Reynolds wrote: “I can’t imagine seeing Mulls on loan and in another kit,” followed by, “We wouldn’t be where we are without his heart, skill and work ethic.” He closed with: “We love you.”
The wording is warm and appreciative, not a public expression of anger. It speaks to Mullin’s importance to Wrexham, while stopping short of saying how Reynolds felt privately about the decision.
What was the move, and why did Mullin leave?
Wigan Athletic signed Mullin on loan from Wrexham for the 2025–26 League One season; the move was reported on 23 June 2025 by BBC Sport. Mullin had joined Wrexham from Cambridge United in 2021.

Mullin described leaving as sad and disappointing because of how his Wrexham spell had ended, while saying he was ready for a new chapter. That was Mullin’s account, not a statement by Reynolds. The available reporting does not establish the full internal decision-making behind the loan.
Why Reynolds’s tribute mattered to Wrexham supporters
When the loan was announced, BBC reported that Mullin had scored 110 goals in 170 appearances in all competitions for Wrexham. He had helped the club win promotion from the National League to the Championship in successive seasons, although he spent much of 2024–25 on the sidelines, according to BBC Sport’s June 2025 timeline.

- Wrexham team name + mock club crest jacquard knitted into both sides, so the scarf reads right whichever way it hangs
- This scarf measures over 5 feet long with soft fringes at either end | Wraps once around the neck with room to spare, or hang it on the wall as a classic Red Dragons collectible
- Hand wash is recommended and ready for cold weather | One size fits adult Men + Women, and it packs down small for the Stadium or a watch party
- Authentic fan scarf, as worn by Red Dragons supporters at the Racecourse Ground and everywhere | A great gift idea for the Wrexham fan or the Red Dragons believer in your life!
That record gives context to Reynolds’s emphasis on Mullin’s contribution and character. It does not change the distinction between Reynolds’s public words and Mullin’s own explanation for wanting a fresh start.

The Wigan move was a loan for 2025–26, not Mullin’s permanent departure from Wrexham. In January 2026, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson confirmed that the loan had been terminated. BBC reported that Mullin had scored five goals in 26 appearances for Wigan. In February, BBC reported that he had moved to Bradford on loan during the January transfer window.
