There is no established proof that Corey Lewandowski leaked allegations against Rob Porter or did so out of jealousy over Porter’s reported relationship with Hope Hicks. A 2018 Us Weekly report attributed that claim to New York magazine; it remains an allegation, not a confirmed account of who disclosed the allegations or why.

What the sabotage claim says—and what is known

The claim is that Lewandowski was behind a leak of abuse allegations concerning Porter because he was jealous of Porter’s relationship with Hicks. The available account is indirect: Us Weekly reported on March 19, 2018, that New York magazine had made that allegation. The account does not independently establish Lewandowski’s role or the supposed motive. Us Weekly’s report

It helps to separate the claims involved: Porter’s former wives made abuse allegations; those allegations became public; and a later report attributed their disclosure to Lewandowski and suggested jealousy as the motive. The reporting cited here supports the first two points as contemporaneously reported events, but does not independently verify the third.

How the Porter story unfolded

Hicks and Porter were reported to be dating

In February 2018, news coverage described Hicks, then the White House communications director, as dating Porter, who was the White House staff secretary. A February 1 Daily Mail report was the first to describe them as romantically involved, according to a Washington Post reconstruction. The Post said it was unclear whether the Daily Mail journalists knew of the abuse allegations at that point. The Washington Post’s reconstruction

Porter resigned after allegations became public

Porter resigned on February 7, 2018, after his two former wives’ abuse allegations became public. The Washington Post reported that Hicks had participated in the White House’s initial defense of him. On February 28, the Post reported that Hicks planned to resign and said she was distressed by intense attention to her personal life. Those reports describe the public sequence and Hicks’s circumstances; they do not establish who disclosed the allegations or why. The Washington Post on Hicks’s planned resignation

What was Hicks’s connection to Lewandowski?

A February 2018 Washington Post profile said Hicks had been romantically linked to Lewandowski during the 2016 Trump campaign, and reported that she was dating Porter in 2018. The same profile noted her role in the initial White House defense of Porter. These reports provide context for why a jealousy narrative might attract attention, but an earlier reported relationship does not prove that Lewandowski later acted against Porter or Hicks. Other coverage also requires careful attribution. TIME described a 2016 legal dispute in which former Trump aide Sam Nunberg alleged in an affidavit that Hicks and Lewandowski had a romantic relationship; Nunberg denied seeing a reported altercation between them. An allegation in a legal filing is not a judicial finding. TIME’s account of the dispute

A 2018 Guardian profile recounted Hicks’s rise in Trump’s political operation and noted a public argument with Lewandowski reported by the New York Post. That background does not establish a leak or its motive. The Guardian’s profile

What the reporting does not establish

  • It does not independently identify who leaked or otherwise disclosed the abuse allegations.
  • It does not prove that Lewandowski was responsible.
  • It does not establish jealousy as a motive.
  • It does not turn the allegations made by Porter’s former wives into a proven explanation of how the information reached the press.

The direct account available here is a secondary report attributing the allegation to New York magazine; the magazine’s original article is not directly available in this reporting record. No named participant’s direct statement establishing the alleged sabotage motive is cited in these accounts.
