The first-look image of Kratos and Atreus was reported on February 27, 2026, showing Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus. Amazon’s current series guide names Dave Bautista as Kratos, however, so the image’s casting should be read as a dated reveal—not the current cast listing.
What the first-look image showed
The image depicts Kratos watching Atreus aim a bow. It does not establish what they are hunting, identify a specific scene from the games, or show a finished costume design. Game Informer reproduced the promotional caption: “Father and Son. Behold your first look at Kratos and Atreus in the God of War series now in production. Their journey to the highest peak begins.” Game Informer’s February 27, 2026 report and Engadget’s report describe the same first look.
Who plays Kratos and Atreus now?
The image report named Ryan Hurst as Kratos, but Amazon’s current official series guide lists Dave Bautista as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus. The difference matters: Hurst is the actor associated with the February first-look image, while Bautista is the Kratos named in Amazon’s current guide. Amazon’s God of War series guide is the current official cast reference.
Amazon’s guide also lists the following announced cast:

What the series is about
Amazon says the story follows Kratos and Atreus as they journey to spread Faye’s ashes. Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god; Atreus tries to show his father how to be a better human. Amazon describes the adaptation as closely following the story of the last two God of War video games, with the father-son relationship at its center.
The bow scene fits that broad father-and-son framing, but the image alone does not confirm a particular plot point or how closely any individual scene will match the games.

The game behind the adaptation
The TV series draws on the last two games in the franchise. For the 2018 story that introduced this version of Kratos and Atreus, Game Informer’s listing for God of War identifies the game as a PlayStation 4 and PC release. That is a listing for the game, not the television series.
