Nikki Glaser hosted the 82nd Annual Golden Globes on January 5, 2025, becoming the first woman to host the televised ceremony solo. Her opening monologue took aim at Nicole Kidman, Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet, but Glaser set a different tone from a full-on roast: “I am not here to roast you tonight.”
What did Nikki Glaser say about Zendaya?
Glaser praised Zendaya’s work in Dune and Challengers, telling her, “I woke up for all of your scenes.” She then made a topical joke connecting the sexual tension of Challengers with Sean Combs’ legal news at the time. The joke was about the film’s charged tone; it was not an allegation about Zendaya.
What was the joke about Timothée Chalamet?
Glaser teased Chalamet’s mustache and his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. She introduced the bit by joking that Tilda Swinton had been nominated “for her role as Timothée Chalamet,” then quipped, “You have the most gorgeous eyelashes on your upper lip?”
What did Glaser say to Nicole Kidman?
Glaser praised Kidman’s performance in Babygirl and her body of work, saying, “Thank you so much for all of your hard work.” She followed with a joke about Kidman’s husband, Keith Urban: if his guitar playing sent Kidman away, Glaser suggested, she could make 18 movies a year. It was a comic riff, not a factual account of their relationship.

Was the monologue a roast?
Not in the usual sense of an extended, hard-edged roast. Glaser explicitly told the audience, “I am not here to roast you tonight.” The jokes were pointed and topical, but the monologue also made room for praise of the performers she addressed. The transcript was published by Rev on January 6, 2025; the Associated Press’s January 5 event coverage also recorded jokes aimed at Zendaya and Chalamet.
Why was Glaser’s hosting role historic?
The Golden Globes described Glaser as the first woman to host the televised ceremony on her own. She hosted the 82nd annual event on January 5, 2025. The organization announced her selection on August 28, 2024, and its post-event report noted the milestone when she took the stage.
