It is Jennings’ cover of Fleetwood Mac’s song, not a new composition by Jennings. The Orchard Japan’s release announcement identifies it as the album’s title track and first single. ABC News described the performance as “a calm and warm take” on the Fleetwood Mac classic; that characterization is ABC News’ description.

When was the album released, and when were the recordings made?
Songbird was released on October 3, 2025. The Orchard Japan announcement says the album draws on recordings made between 1973 and 1984. The release date refers to the album’s arrival, not the date Jennings recorded the cover.
How did the archival album come together?
According to ABC News’ October 26, 2025 interview, Shooter Jennings came across the recordings while working through his father’s archives. He edited and mixed the album. Explaining why he wanted to share the material, Shooter said: “It was just too good not to share with people who really love his music and to remind the world who he is.”

Where can you find Songbird on vinyl or CD?
Waylon Jennings’ official website lists both vinyl and CD formats for Songbird. That listing establishes the formats offered on the official site, but not current stock at other retailers or whether a particular marketplace listing matches the same edition.
