Spoilers for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Shimo is a colossal Titan whose frozen breath makes her a powerful force in the 2024 film. Although Skar King deploys her against Godzilla and Kong, the story presents her as controlled by him through a special crystal—not simply as a willing ally.
Who is Shimo?
Shimo is a newly introduced Titan in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, associated with a freezing breath weapon. Production notes describe her as an ice-breathing Titan, and the film makes that ability central to her role in the conflict. The movie opened in U.S. theaters and IMAX on March 29, 2024; its international release began March 27, 2024. Legendary Pictures’ official film page lists the release information and production credits.
Is Shimo a villain?
The film shows Shimo fighting on Skar King’s side, but also presents Skar King controlling her with a special crystal. That changes how her actions should be read: taking part in his attacks does not, by itself, mean she freely chose his cause. The control mechanism is the key distinction between Shimo’s role in the battle and her allegiance. Warner Bros. Pictures’ production notes, reproduced by SciFi Japan, describe Shimo and the crystal’s role.
Why does Shimo fight Godzilla?
Director Adam Wingard described Shimo as the counterpart designed for Godzilla in this film. “The starting point was Skar King was always going to be the anti-Kong, and Shimo was going to be the anti-Godzilla sort of for this movie,” he told ComicBook.com.

“Anti-Godzilla” is Wingard’s explanation of the filmmakers’ matchup concept, not an in-universe species name or biological classification. Shimo fights Godzilla as part of the film’s conflict, while Skar King’s control of her explains why she is deployed against him.
What is Shimo’s ice breath?
Shimo’s frozen breath is the defining power highlighted in the film’s production coverage. It makes her a formidable combatant and gives the movie a way to set her apart from Godzilla. The available production descriptions do not establish a precise temperature, range, or other numerical measure for the ability, so those figures should not be treated as confirmed character facts.

How was Shimo designed?
The film’s creature characterization depends on more than powers: design and body language help communicate how a Titan behaves and feels. In an interview with The Art of VFX, visual-effects and animation supervisors discussed how behavior informs creature body language, and described the new creatures, including Shimo, as based on client art and direction. Wētā Workshop’s project page identifies its Design Studio’s work on the film’s characters, creatures, and costumes.
Those credits show that multiple creative and production contributions shaped the film’s creature work; they do not establish a complete step-by-step design history for Shimo or assign every final design decision to one artist. Wingard has also described aiming for a degree of simplicity in MonsterVerse creature designs, rather than making complexity the point of every design.

Is there an official Shimo action figure?
Playmates’ March 2024 investor presentation confirms a licensed Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire toy line, including action figures, deluxe feature figures, and role-play masks. It identifies Playmates as the global master licensee, but does not confirm a Shimo-specific figure or provide its scale, features, price, or current availability. Check that a retailer listing explicitly identifies Shimo before treating it as a Shimo collectible. Playmates Toys’ site is the company source for its products and licensing information.
