Arabella Stanton, cast as Hermione Granger in HBO’s new Harry Potter series, is also voicing Hermione in a full-cast audio edition of the first book, according to Collider’s report. It is a connection between two separate adaptations—not an announcement that Emma Watson is returning to the series.
What is the update about Arabella Stanton?
Stanton has two Hermione roles tied to the opening book: she has been cast as the character in HBO’s television adaptation, and Collider reports that she is part of a full-cast audio edition of the first novel, voicing Hermione there as well. The audio project is separate from HBO’s production; the connection is Stanton’s participation in both.

The audio news is the distinctive part of the update. It gives listeners another way to encounter the character with the actor chosen to play her on screen, but it does not establish anything about how the television performance will sound or compare with other portrayals.
Who is playing the central trio in the HBO series?
The official Wizarding World series explainer names the young leads:

#1 Best Overall
- Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter
- Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger
- Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley
These are the new television castings, not a return of the original film performers. In particular, “Hermione herself” in this update means Stanton, the newly cast series Hermione—not Emma Watson.
How are the television series and audio edition different?
| Project | Format | Scope described |
|---|---|---|
| HBO series | Television | Wizarding World describes it as a faithful book adaptation, with each season covering one book. |
| Full-cast audio edition | Audio | Collider’s report connects Stanton to an audio adaptation of the first novel; it does not establish the audiobook as an HBO production. |
The official franchise announcement identifies Francesca Gardiner as showrunner and executive producer, and Mark Mylod as executive producer and director of multiple episodes. Those television credits are distinct from the audio project.

When is the HBO series expected?
Wizarding World currently lists a Christmas 2026 debut on HBO and HBO Max where available. That is the scheduled window in the official explainer, not a guaranteed date; release plans can change, and HBO Max availability depends on territory.
