In July 2023, the group included him in the announced lineup for its final tour, but that announcement alone does not establish his performance status in 2026.
Who is Deacon Frey?
Deacon Frey is the son of Eagles co-founder Glenn Frey, who died in New York City on January 18, 2016. The band’s memorial identifies Glenn as a founding member and lists Deacon among his family.

In 2017, Deacon joined the Eagles’ touring lineup alongside Vince Gill as the band returned to live performances. He was 24 when he stepped into that public role, according to the Eagles’ statement later reproduced by Pollstar.
Why did Deacon Frey leave the Eagles?
In April 2022, the Eagles announced that Deacon was leaving after about four and a half years with the band. In a statement quoted in Pollstar’s April 8, 2022 report, the group said: “Deacon Frey has devoted the past 4½ years to carrying on his father’s legacy and, after some weeks of reflection, he now feels that it is time for him to forge his own path.”

The band added: “We understand, completely, and we support him in whatever he wishes to pursue in the years ahead.” It also said he would be welcome to join the Eagles onstage at future concerts if he wished.
That statement is the documented explanation for the departure. The sources do not establish that the band fired him, that illness caused his departure, or that Deacon gave a public first-person explanation of his own.

Did Deacon Frey return to the Eagles?
On July 6, 2023, the Eagles announced The Long Goodbye as their final tour and named Deacon among the performers. The band’s announcement and the related Live Nation release document a later announced lineup that included him.
This means the 2022 departure was not the end of all announced later involvement. The 2023 lineup announcement does not, by itself, show which performances Deacon took part in or establish his current status in 2026.
