Kurt Russell says his granddaughter Rio Hudson has a spark of her own—even as people see her taking after Goldie Hawn. In comments reported by E! News, he praised Rio’s potential and dancing, while making clear that the family does not steer its children toward particular careers.
What Kurt Russell said about Rio
Russell spoke with E! News at The Madison NYC red carpet on March 9, 2026. In its report published the following day, E! quoted him saying: “Rio has got something.” He added, “Everybody can see it, and it’s her own. It’s very much her own, so heads up.”
The remark recognizes a resemblance people see between Rio and her grandmother, but Russell’s emphasis was that Rio’s spark belongs to her. He also called Hawn “a fabulous, unique human being.”
Why people call Rio “Mini Goldie”
E! reported that people call Rio “Mini Goldie” and quoted Russell praising her dancing: “Rio is showing some serious chops with dancing ability.” The nickname and compliment describe how others see her; neither establishes that she has chosen an acting career.

E! identified Rio as the daughter of Oliver Hudson and Erinn Bartlett, and described her as 12 in its March 10, 2026 report. That age reflects the article’s publication date, not necessarily her age now.
Russell says the family lets children choose their own path
Asked what advice he had given Rio if she pursued entertainment, Russell replied: “Same as we’ve given to all our other children—none at all.” He explained: “They’re gonna do things their own way. They’re gonna find things that they wanna do. You never know where it’s gonna go.”
His answer was not a prediction about Rio’s future. It was a description of the family’s approach: let the children discover what interests them rather than prescribe a career.
