Before the ceremony, the eight-nominee field made for a close forecast—not because the Recording Academy publishes odds or vote totals, but because each artist had a distinct case for a breakthrough. This retrospective revisits the nominees and the evidence available at the time.
Who were the 2025 Best New Artist nominees?
The Recording Academy announced eight nominees on November 8, 2024: Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, Khruangbin, RAYE, Chappell Roan, Shaboozey, and Teddy Swims. Roan ultimately won.
The relevant Grammy eligibility period ran from September 16, 2023, through August 30, 2024. A forecast made before the February ceremony therefore needed to focus on breakthroughs and impact during that window, rather than treating every career milestone as equally relevant.
What does Best New Artist recognize?
The Academy describes the category as recognizing an artist whose releases during the eligibility period achieved a breakthrough into public consciousness and notably affected the musical landscape. It is not simply an award for someone who recently debuted. The Academy’s nominee explainer says, “Little does it matter if they have just a few singles or 10 studio albums under their belts.”

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That distinction matters for this field: the question was not who had been making music for the shortest time, but whose work had made a notable breakthrough in the qualifying period. The Recording Academy says Grammy voting is conducted by its voting membership of music makers across genres and creative disciplines. Public popularity can inform an editorial forecast, but the Academy does not provide a public scoring formula or nominee vote totals.
How to read the pre-ceremony predictions
A useful retrospective comparison considers three things: the scale of an artist’s breakthrough during the eligibility window, the breadth of public attention, and the reported impact of the music. These are editorial lenses drawn from the category’s stated scope, not an official Grammy rubric. The official result is known, but it does not reveal how voters weighed those factors or how close the contest was.

The nominees represented different kinds of visibility and artistic profiles. That variety made the category compelling, but it also makes a precise ranking or probability unsupported: the available official information names the field and the winner, not the vote distribution or odds.
Who won Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammys?
Chappell Roan won Best New Artist at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on February 2, 2025. The Recording Academy’s category page associates her with The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. The result resolves the contest, but it should not be mistaken for proof that any particular prediction method or public popularity measure determined the outcome.

Why the nominee field was not a simple “newcomer” list
Best New Artist’s wording centers on an eligibility-period breakthrough and musical impact, not a fixed number of years since an artist’s first release. The Academy’s explanation explicitly allows for nominees with substantial prior catalogs. For readers revisiting forecasts, that means career history is context; the core question remains what changed in the qualifying period and how significantly the work reached listeners and the musical landscape.
