Director Hemant Dhome says Fussclass Dabhade turns a familiar family gathering into a story shaped by recognizable characters, local roots and difficult conversations. The 2025 Marathi wedding comedy follows three siblings reunited for their youngest brother’s wedding; Dhome describes its intended balance as “funny and emotional, relatable and real.”

The film brings three siblings together for the youngest brother’s wedding. Kshitee Jog plays the eldest sister, Siddharth Chandekar the middle brother and Amey Wagh the youngest. Scroll’s January 14, 2025 interview reports that the story draws partly on Dhome’s experiences with his younger sister and weddings in his family. He sums up the ambition as “It’s the story of every home.” That is the director’s description of the film’s reach, not a claim that every family’s experience is the same.
How does Dhome aim to make a familiar story feel specific?
Dhome says he focused on character rather than novelty of premise: “I have focused on relatable characters because even after much effort, how many new stories can there be,” he told Scroll. His approach is to make the people and their relationships feel lived-in, even within a recognizable wedding-comedy setup.

He describes the intended tone as “The film is funny and emotional, relatable and real.” The interview connects that mix to his earlier films Jhimma (2021), Sunny (2022) and Jhimma 2 (2023). Dhome also cites dysfunctional-family films such as Dil Dhadakne Do and Kapoor & Sons as films he enjoys, while presenting Fussclass Dabhade as his own take rather than an imitation.
Which difficult family subjects does the film address?
Dhome says the story includes a married couple unable to have children and the taboo around discussing sex within families. He links that silence to arranged marriages in which sexual compatibility may not be discussed, leaving couples to manage problems privately. These are themes as Dhome describes them in the interview; the material does not establish a broader claim about all arranged marriages or families.
Where was the film made, and what does Dhome say about smaller cities?
Scroll reports that much of the film was shot in Mansar and Narayangaon in Pune district, where Dhome grew up. He sees smaller-city life as compatible with access to trends and networks while remaining rooted in one’s local community. As he put it, “There is less of a compulsion to move to a big city like Mumbai or Pune – you can achieve whatever you want where you live itself.” That is his perspective, rather than a general finding about all residents of smaller cities.
What did Hemant Dhome say about Marathi audiences and filmmakers?
Dhome places responsibility for audience trust on filmmakers. “We as makers have failed to build trust between audiences and films,” he told Scroll, adding, “We need to up our game for sure.” His clearest formulation is: “If audiences don’t turn out for a film, it’s not on them. It’s on the filmmakers.” These are his views about the relationship between Marathi films and their audiences, not independently measured industry findings.
