Rapper Young Scooter, whose legal name was Kenneth Bailey, died on March 28, 2025, from a penetrating injury to his right thigh, the Fulton County Medical Examiner reported. The office classified his death as an accident and said the wound was not caused by a gunshot.

What caused Young Scooter’s death?

The Fulton County Medical Examiner listed the cause of death as “Penetrating injury of the right thigh” and the manner of death as “Accident.” The report says the injury caused marked blood loss.

In its April 1, 2025, press report, the medical examiner wrote: “Mr. Bailey sustained a penetrating injury of his right thigh that created marked blood loss. This injury was not a gunshot wound. Mr. Bailey injured himself on organic (wooden) fencing material and/or woody debris after vaulting at least one fence.” Fulton County Medical Examiner press report

Was Young Scooter shot?

No. The medical examiner’s report explicitly says the right-thigh injury was not a gunshot wound. That finding addresses the cause of the wound; it does not, by itself, answer every question about the surrounding encounter or police conduct.

How did he injure his leg?

The medical examiner said Bailey injured himself on wooden fencing material and/or woody debris after vaulting at least one fence. The report does not specify further details about the wound or the precise sequence of events, so those should not be inferred from its account.

Contemporary reporting described Bailey as being injured while fleeing during an encounter with police. Atlanta police said officers rendered aid and that Bailey was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital; FOX 5 reported that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was investigating at Atlanta police’s request. Those reports concern the broader encounter, distinct from the medical examiner’s findings about cause and manner of death. Atlanta police reporting · FOX 5 reporting

What do “cause” and “manner” of death mean?

Cause identifies the injury or disease that produced death. Manner classifies how the death occurred; in Bailey’s case, the medical examiner classified it as an accident. Fulton County says its Medical Examiner’s Office investigates certain deaths, including those believed to result from injury or poisoning and sudden, unexpected deaths that are not readily explainable. Its work can include an autopsy or other postmortem examination. Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office

The medical examiner’s report provides the county’s medical findings. Law-enforcement investigations address the surrounding events and any separate legal questions.
