Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 brings back Madhouse, series composer Tomohiro Suzuki, and music composer Evan Call, but it is not a full Season 1 staff reunion. Tomoya Kitagawa directs the new season; Season 1 director Keiichiro Saito is credited with director support. Season 2 premiered in Japan in January 2026.
Which Season 1 staff return for Season 2?
The official season-by-season staff and cast listing shows continuity in several key roles, alongside notable changes. Madhouse returns as the animation studio, while Tomohiro Suzuki remains series composer and Evan Call remains music composer.
| Role | Season 1 | Season 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Director | Keiichiro Saito | Tomoya Kitagawa |
| Director support | Not stated in the official listing | Keiichiro Saito |
| Series composer | Tomohiro Suzuki | Tomohiro Suzuki |
| Music composer | Evan Call | Evan Call |
| Animation studio | Madhouse | Madhouse |
| Character designers | Includes Reiko Nagasawa | Takasemaru, Keisuke Kojima, and Yuri Fujinaka |
The character-design credits also change: Season 1 lists Reiko Nagasawa among its designers, while Season 2 credits Takasemaru and Keisuke Kojima, with Yuri Fujinaka as an additional designer. The credits support saying that some key staff return—not that the entire Season 1 team is back.
Is the director the same?
No. Tomoya Kitagawa is credited as Season 2 director. Keiichiro Saito, who directed Season 1, is credited with director support for the second season. Those are distinct roles, so describing Saito as Season 2’s director would be inaccurate.
