Dong Nguyen, creator of the original Flappy Bird, said he had no involvement with the announced revival, had not sold anything, and did not support crypto. Reports later found hidden Solana and Web3 references on the revival project’s website, raising questions about its plans—but the available reporting does not prove the game is a scam or confirm that crypto features will launch.
What did Dong Nguyen say about the new Flappy Bird?
On September 15, 2024, Nguyen publicly disavowed the announced revival. VGC reproduced his statement: “No, I have no related with their game. I did not sell anything. I also don’t support crypto.” VGC’s report attributes those words to Nguyen.
That is Nguyen’s account of his involvement and what he did or did not sell. It is not, by itself, an independent legal finding about who owns the Flappy Bird name or related rights.
Who is behind the announced revival?
The Flappy Bird Foundation presents the project as the official return of the game, describing new worlds, challenges, and characters on its official project site. PC Gamer reported on September 16, 2024, that the trademark had reportedly transferred from Gametech Holdings to the Foundation, and identified Michael Roberts as a key figure associated with the Foundation and 1208 Productions, which the outlet characterized as involved with crypto and NFTs. That is a reported account of the transfer and affiliations, not a primary legal record. PC Gamer’s report provides that context.

Why did the revival raise crypto concerns?
Europa Press reported on September 16, 2024, that cybersecurity researcher Varun Biniwale found hidden pages on the project website referring to Solana and Web3. The reported language included building, creating, playing, and betting. The existence of those references prompted concern because they suggested possible crypto-related plans, despite Nguyen’s stated opposition to crypto. Europa Press’s report said it was unknown whether the plans had been removed, were being tested, or were intended for a future release.
Is the new Flappy Bird a crypto scam?
The available reporting does not establish fraud. Hidden-page language about crypto can support questions about the project’s intentions, but it does not prove that anyone has been defrauded or that the announced game contains a crypto feature. It is more accurate to describe the situation as a crypto-related concern or suspicion, not a proven scam.

The Foundation’s site, accessed October 8, 2026, still displayed “COMING SOON” and release language referring to 2025. Because that date has passed, the page is a stale status signal rather than proof that the game is currently playable—or proof that it is not. Current availability and the final status of any crypto features remain unresolved in the cited sources. The project site describes the Foundation’s own plans, but does not settle either question.
