Graceland’s timeline connects the concert to the Kui Lee Cancer Fund, making it a benefit as well as a major television event. The concert joined a live performance to an international satellite transmission at a time when this kind of broadcast was new. PBS Hawaii characterizes it as the first concert by a solo artist broadcast live via satellite to an international audience. The Elvis Presley Official Site uses a broader formulation, calling it “the first full-length concert by any musician to be beamed around the world over communications satellites.” Those are source-specific historical claims, and their scope differs. Was Aloha from Hawaii broadcast live?
Yes, but not to every market at the same time. Graceland says the January 14 show was broadcast live via satellite at 12:30 a.m. local time in Honolulu. The transmission first reached viewers in Asia and Oceania. Europe received a delayed presentation in January, according to the official Elvis release page.

U.S. viewers did not see the January live transmission. NBC aired a 90-minute U.S. television version on April 4, 1973, with additional performances recorded after the concert. Once the live audience had left, Presley returned to the arena to record “Blue Hawaii,” “Ku-u-i-po,” “Hawaiian Wedding Song,” “Early Morning Rain,” and “No More” for that U.S. version. Was this really Elvis’s last great performance?
The concert is a credible candidate for a later-career high point because it combined a live performance, a benefit, and a broadcast of unusual international scale. Its historic reach is better established than any claim that it was the artistic peak of Presley’s later career.

“Last great moment” is therefore a defensible critical reading of the event, not a settled historical consensus. The sources describe the broadcast and its significance but do not offer named-person assessments establishing it as Presley’s final artistic peak. Nor was it his last concert: the Graceland National Historic Landmark nomination identifies his final performance as a show at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis on June 26, 1977. The years between Hawaii and that concert do not, by themselves, prove that no later performance was artistically strong. The landmark nomination documents the later concert date.

The concert also reached a large audience through its soundtrack. The official Elvis site says the companion double album reached No. 1 on Billboard’s pop and country charts. Graceland’s landmark nomination reports that it reached No. 1 on the Billboard album chart and remained on the charts for 52 weeks.
