Johansen’s character is one of the supernatural visitors who confronts network executive Frank Cross on Christmas Eve.
Who is the Ghost of Christmas Past in Scrooged?
David Johansen is credited as the Ghost of Christmas Past by Paramount Pictures, with the role also confirmed in the AFI Catalog and the BFI record. Johansen is also known in the film’s soundtrack context as Buster Poindexter, his performing persona; a soundtrack press release identifies that persona with the Ghost of Christmas Past.
The sources confirm the casting and the film’s broad premise, but do not establish a dependable scene-by-scene account of Johansen’s appearance or his exact dialogue. It is better not to attach a specific line or detailed flashback description to him without a reliable source.
How Johansen’s role fits the story
Scrooged follows Frank Cross, a high-ranking television network president played by Bill Murray. On Christmas Eve, a ghostly time warp confronts the callous executive with the past, present and possible future in a comic reworking of Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. Johansen’s Ghost of Christmas Past is one of those supernatural visitors; Carol Kane plays the Ghost of Christmas Present, according to Paramount’s cast listing.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That premise makes Johansen’s role part of the film’s Dickensian framework rather than a separate documentary-style account of the character. The movie is a scripted comedy-drama, not a documentary.

Johansen, Buster Poindexter and the soundtrack
Johansen’s association with Buster Poindexter is relevant to the film’s music: the soundtrack press release describes Buster Poindexter as Johansen’s performing persona and names “Brown-Eyed Girl” among the album’s tracks. The release establishes the soundtrack connection, but does not establish that a physical soundtrack edition is currently available.
