The presentation offered a glimpse of the film’s retro 1960s-style tone, introduced its principal cast onstage and ended with a Fantasticar flying over the Hall H audience.
What did Marvel show for Fantastic Four at SDCC?
During Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation on Saturday, July 27, 2024, Kevin Feige introduced the Fantastic Four segment. Director Matt Shakman described the reel as pre-visualization designed to convey the film’s tone. TheWrap quoted him saying, “there’s no actual footage from the film”. (TheWrap’s July 27, 2024 report)
The reel adopted the look of a fictional 1960s newsreel. As TheWrap described it, Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm appeared in astronaut outfits; other images included a rocket launch, Reed explaining parallel earths in an educational television-style segment and a giant figure peering into an office building, apparently Galactus. These were images in the convention presentation, not a publicly released trailer.
Was the Fantastic Four SDCC footage a trailer?
No. It was a pre-visualization reel, not a finished scene or official trailer. That distinction matters: the images communicated a visual direction and some story elements, but did not show completed movie footage. Marvel’s current official film listing describes The Fantastic Four: First Steps as set in a “1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world.” That later official description clarifies the setting; it does not change what was screened in 2024.
