FOREVER is Netflix’s eight-episode 2025 drama about Justin Edwards and Keisha Clark, childhood friends who reconnect as teenagers and begin a first romance. Created by Mara Brock Akil, the series reimagines Judy Blume’s 1975 novel in Los Angeles in 2018, placing love alongside questions of identity, family, school, basketball and the characters’ futures.

Justin and Keisha reconnect at a party and quickly develop feelings for each other. The season’s story moves through events including a trip to Martha’s Vineyard and prom. In the finale, “Forever…,” Justin faces a difficult prom-night choice as his dreams, his parents’ expectations and his relationship with Keisha pull in different directions. The series keeps the romance at its center while giving both teenagers lives and decisions beyond the relationship.
Is FOREVER based on a Judy Blume book?
Yes. Netflix describes the series as a reimagining of Judy Blume’s novel Forever, which Netflix dates to 1975. The television adaptation shifts the story to Los Angeles in 2018 and centers two Black teenagers exploring romance and identity. Netflix’s description establishes the adaptation’s broad premise; it does not make the book and series identical versions of the same story. Netflix Media Center’s series entry identifies the source novel and setting.

For readers curious about the adaptation’s literary origin, Blume’s novel is a natural companion read. Treat it as the source text, rather than assuming that details from the book carry over unchanged to the series.
Who stars in FOREVER?
Michael Cooper Jr. plays Justin Edwards and Lovie Simone plays Keisha Clark. Netflix’s listing also names Xosha Roquemore among the stars. Mara Brock Akil created the series.

How the series differs from its source novel
The clearest comparison established by Netflix is one of era, setting and format: the source is a novel Netflix dates to 1975, while the series is an eight-episode television story set in Los Angeles in 2018, centered on two Black teens. Netflix calls the screen version a reimagining. These facts describe the adaptation’s frame, not a scene-by-scene comparison of the book and show.
