“Redoubt” gives Jubal a deeply personal reason to doubt his informant, but its terror plot does not match the emotional tension of their history.

FBI Season 7, Episode 10, “Redoubt,” gives Jubal Valentine a case with personal stakes: a longtime informant warns of a major terror attack, but his story does not add up. The bond between Jubal and Faheem lends the episode its strongest tension; the investigation’s turns are less effective. One critic, Brittany Frederick of CBR, rated it 4/10 and wrote that “Audiences will know every plot point before it happens, so none of them are particularly satisfying.”

What is “Redoubt” about?

“Redoubt” is the tenth episode of FBI Season 7. CBS lists its original air date as February 4, 2025, between “Descent” (Episode 9) and “Shelter” (Episode 11). In the official premise, Jubal’s longtime confidential informant warns of an impending large-scale terror attack. When details fail to add up, Jubal must decide what to believe about someone who has known him at his worst.

Alex Chapple directed the 43-minute episode, written by Mike Weiss. CBS lists it as TV-14 V,L. The principal team includes Jeremy Sisto as Jubal Valentine, Missy Peregrym as Maggie Bell, Zeeko Zaki as OA, and Alana De La Garza as Isobel Castille.

Does the personal story make the case work?

The episode’s most compelling idea is the uneasy gap between trust and suspicion. Jubal believes Faheem is fundamentally a good person, yet knows he is withholding the truth. That conflict is more intimate than a routine question of whether a source is reliable: Faheem has witnessed Jubal’s own struggles, and their relationship carries a history that cannot be switched off when the investigation begins.

Before the episode aired, Sisto described their connection as unusually genuine for Jubal. “His relationships with his informants are usually mostly performance based, but in this case a real mutual respect and connection was formed,” he told TV Insider. He also explained the contradiction at the center of Jubal’s response: “So he has a certainty that he knows who Faheem is, knows that at his core he is a good person with integrity. He also knows that he is not telling him the truth in this situation.”

That relationship gives “Redoubt” emotional stakes the terror plot alone would not have. The weakness is that the case’s turns do not build comparable suspense. Frederick’s CBR assessment, displayed by Rotten Tomatoes on February 6, 2025, is a single critic’s review, not a consensus or audience score. Her 4/10 verdict is blunt: “Audiences will know every plot point before it happens, so none of them are particularly satisfying.” The episode’s central premise offers room for doubt and character conflict, but predictability can blunt the payoff when the mystery is meant to carry the procedural half of the story.

Spoilers: what happens in “Redoubt”?

Spoilers ahead. Faheem does not meet Jubal as expected; he arrives at Jubal’s home. Their case forces Jubal to revisit a period when Faheem helped him through a relapse. At home, Samantha recognizes that Jubal has been more present, and the two kiss. The moment opens a door rather than resolving their relationship: Sisto later told TV Insider, “They are feeling it out,” adding that Jubal “loves her and feels guilty about how their relationship ended.”

The investigation does not end with the extremist threat fully neutralized. The group remains active, the case involves help from within law enforcement, and the matter is transferred to a domestic-terror branch. That unresolved outcome suits the scale of the danger, but also leaves the episode’s procedural resolution feeling more like a handoff than a satisfying close.
