Matlock is renewed for Season 3, which CBS has placed in its midseason 2026–27 schedule. Paramount+ estimates an early 2027 return, but no exact premiere date or airtime has been announced. Kathy Bates is confirmed to return; a complete Season 3 cast list and episode count are still pending.
When does Matlock Season 3 premiere?
CBS’s announced window is midseason 2026–27. Paramount+ describes the expected return as early 2027, but that is an estimate—not a confirmed premiere date. CBS has not announced a specific day or airtime. Paramount+’s Season 3 guide and TV Insider’s October 7, 2026 report provide the current timing details.
Creator Jennie Snyder Urman told TV Insider that she asked the network for the schedule shift, saying, “I asked for it with the network. We had a talk,” and that she was grateful for time to build the next story. That is Urman’s explanation in an interview, not a separately announced CBS rationale.
Is Matlock renewed for Season 3?
Yes. Paramount’s official Season 3 guide and its series listing identify the 2024 series as renewed. The series is also listed on CBS’s show page.

Paramount+’s later season guide says the investigation concluded, the responsible parties were exposed and arrested, and Matty avenged her daughter’s death. The next season is positioned as a new story after that arc.
