Winfrey and Dwayne Johnson launched the People’s Fund for Maui after the fires and committed $10 million. In 2024, the Associated Press reported that the Entertainment Industry Foundation, which managed distributions, said the fund raised almost $60 million and distributed money between September and February to about 8,100 adults. Those figures refer to the fund and period described in the AP report, not to all Maui relief or recovery spending. The Associated Press report also reproduced Winfrey’s message to supporters: “Your generosity, I guarantee you, is going to touch the lives of many families.”
