Spoilers for the Wolverine variant montage and later appearances.

Nine Wolverine appearances stand out in Deadpool & Wolverine, from Hugh Jackman’s story-driving alternate Logan to blink-and-you-miss-it comic-book homages. Ranked by narrative weight, memorability, recognizability and surprise, the film’s principal Wolverine comes first; the original Earth-10005 Logan, seen largely through his remains, comes last.

How this ranking works

This is an editorial ranking, not a Marvel canon hierarchy. Story time and character development matter, but so do a cameo’s visual impact, its connection to recognizable comic art or storylines, and the surprise it delivers. That puts the main alternate Logan at the top, even though a shorter cameo may be the bigger jolt.

The nine Wolverine variants, ranked

  1. The “Worst” Wolverine

Hugh Jackman’s principal Logan is an alternate Wolverine in a yellow-and-gold, masked costume inspired by the comics. He dominates the story and carries its redemption arc, giving him more narrative weight than any montage cameo. The Escapist identifies him as the film’s main Wolverine and ranks him first: The Escapist’s variant ranking.

  2. Cavillerine, also called Cavillrine

Henry Cavill appears as a Wolverine variant in the montage. Director Shawn Levy told Variety that Ryan Reynolds coined the credited name “Cavillerine”; “Cavillrine” is another published nickname. Levy said Cavill agreed to the cameo right away, knowing it would be “subversive and playful.” The appearance is a fan-casting joke and a surprise, rather than a developed character turn: Levy’s interview with Variety.

  3. Age of Apocalypse Wolverine, or Weapon Omega

This one-handed Logan has long, wild hair and a black-and-red outfit. The look evokes the Age of Apocalypse storyline, though coverage differs on the label: The Escapist calls him Age of Apocalypse Wolverine, while TheWrap calls the appearance Weapon Omega. Treat it as a recognizable visual reference, not a definitive on-screen identification: TheWrap’s variant explainer.

  4. Patch

In a white suit and eyepatch, Logan evokes Patch, his undercover identity associated with Madripoor’s crime world. The sharp, composed look contrasts with Wolverine’s familiar berserker image. It is a memorable design, though the appearance is brief.

  5. Old Man Logan

An elderly, silver-haired Logan in a cowboy hat shoots at Deadpool from a porch, recalling the Old Man Logan comic storyline. Keep this reference distinct from the 2017 film Logan: that movie was inspired by the comic, but this brief appearance is its own nod to the source material.

Marvel Legends Series Wolverine, Deadpool 2 Adult Collectible 6-Inch Action Figure

    • DISPLAY-WORTHY ARTICULATION: This figure features over 20 points of articulation with fully poseable head, arms, and legs for dynamic poses on your shelf
    • PREMIUM PACKAGING DESIGN: This figure comes in collectible window-box packaging with movie logos and design
  6. Brown-and-tan Wolverine fighting Hulk

This variant wears the brown-and-tan costume from an earlier comic era and appears fighting Hulk. TheWrap connects the image to Wolverine and Hulk’s comic history and the cover of The Incredible Hulk #340. The cameo’s appeal is concentrated in that recognizable matchup and costume rather than a larger role.

  7. Short, comics-accurate Wolverine

A visual-effects gag presents Logan at the height commonly attributed to the comic character. The Escapist and TheWrap reported Wolverine’s comic height as 5 feet 3 inches in 2024; TheWrap reported Hugh Jackman as 6 feet 2 inches in its comparison. These are publications’ reported figures, not measurements verified here against an official Marvel character reference. The joke works by making the difference visible rather than explaining it.

    • [Set Contents] Main body, Interchangeable head part, Interchangeable opening wrist parts (left and right), Open hand claw parts (left and right), Grip wrist cover parts (left and right), Special move effect mount
  8. Crucified Wolverine

A brief image shows Logan nailed to an X-shaped cross, recalling the cover of Uncanny X-Men #251, illustrated by Marc Silvestri and Dan Green. It is one of the montage’s starkest comic-book images, even though its screen time is minimal.

  9. Earth-10005 Logan

The original Hugh Jackman-continuity Logan is present chiefly through his remains. Deadpool’s use of the adamantium-coated skeleton supplies the visual gag, but the character has little active screen presence. That limited role puts him last in a ranking weighted toward story and character.

Comics behind the visual references

Several cameos point toward specific comic reading paths. The film’s brief images are homages, not substitutes for the fuller stories.

  • Old Man Logan: look for the Wolverine: Old Man Logan graphic novel or a collected edition.
  • Age of Apocalypse: an X-Men: Age of Apocalypse collection provides context for the storyline evoked by the one-handed, black-and-red variant.
  • Crucified Wolverine: Uncanny X-Men #251, or a collection reproducing its cover, is the reference behind the X-shaped cross image.

These are relevant comic references; a particular edition’s current availability and price are not established here.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
