Ryan Seacrest made his syndicated Wheel of Fortune hosting debut on September 9, 2024, in the show’s season 42 premiere. He entered with longtime co-host Vanna White, acknowledged the legacy he was taking on, and then began a familiar game with contestants Corina, Terry, and Cindy. The episode brought a redesigned set and a sponsor-linked bonus-round letter change, but the available recap does not give each contestant’s final winnings.
How Ryan Seacrest’s first episode opened
Announcer Jim Thornton introduced “Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White” as the stars of the show together for the first time, according to TheWrap. The Los Angeles Times described the familiar audience chant and theme before Seacrest and White entered arm in arm. The new host greeted White warmly: “So happy to be here with you,” he said, then added, “Let’s have fun.” (Los Angeles Times)
What Seacrest said about taking over
Seacrest thanked the audience for its welcome and called hosting the show a dream job. He recalled watching Wheel of Fortune with his family in Atlanta and recognized that he had “some very big shoes to fill,” a clear acknowledgment of the transition from Pat Sajak. ABC/GMA reported those remarks the day after the premiere. (ABC/GMA)
Who played in the premiere—and who won?
The three contestants were Corina, Terry, and Cindy. The Los Angeles Times described the game as including both good and bad spins and guesses, and characterized the premiere as a smooth start. Its account does not provide a full round-by-round record or individual prize totals. (Los Angeles Times)

At the end of the episode, White asked Seacrest how he felt about the game. He said it felt as if they had “got one under our belt,” called it a fun night, and said he was glad everybody walked away with some money. That establishes the broad outcome, not who won the most or how much anyone took home. (ABC/GMA)
What changed on the set and in the bonus round?
The premiere retained the show’s recognizable format but included a few visible differences. The Los Angeles Times noted a redesigned set and that Seacrest introduced contestants without using index cards. TVLine separately reported a sponsor-related bonus-round adjustment: with LG as sponsor, G was added to the free-letter sequence, making it R-S-T-L-G-N-E. (Los Angeles Times; TVLine)

What the debut did—and did not—show
The premiere offered a first look at Seacrest’s on-camera partnership with White and at a set with updated visuals. The Los Angeles Times called the start smooth while cautioning that one episode was too small a sample for a definitive assessment of Seacrest as host. The episode recap reporting also leaves puzzle-by-puzzle details and exact contestant totals unstated, so a more granular account would require an episode recording or official transcript.
