Since then, he has played Viktor Hargreeves in The Umbrella Academy, published the memoir Pageboy, and taken part in the documentary Second Nature. His life and work are not defined by one announcement, but his own reflections show how identity and acting have intersected.
Who is Elliot Page?
Page grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and began acting as a child. In a 2021 interview with TIME, he said he became a professional actor at age 10. One of his early credits was the Canadian television film Pit Pony.
His international breakthrough came with Juno (2007), for which he received an Academy Award nomination. The role brought major public attention, and his subsequent film credits include the X-Men films and Inception. Page has also worked extensively in television, most notably in Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy.
When did Elliot Page come out as transgender?
Page publicly announced that he was transgender in December 2020. He had come out publicly as gay earlier; these were separate announcements. In his first major interview after coming out as trans, published by TIME in March 2021, Page described the announcement as freeing and joyful while also discussing fear, anxiety, grief and anger connected to being exposed to public scrutiny. Those are his own accounts, not a template for how other trans people experience coming out.

Page has also reflected on the pressures surrounding fame before his announcement, including public appearances and expectations about clothing during the Juno period. His 2023 interview with ABC News and his memoir discuss how acting, identity and Hollywood intersected in his life. The available accounts do not establish that any particular casting decision or career outcome was caused by his transition.
What has Elliot Page done since coming out?
Continued work on The Umbrella Academy
Page remained part of The Umbrella Academy after coming out. His character, formerly known as Vanya Hargreeves, became Viktor Hargreeves, and the character’s transition was incorporated into the show’s third season. Page has described the experience positively, telling ABC News, “The experience with ‘Umbrella Academy’ and playing Viktor has been such a true gift.”
Rank #2
He has spoken about telling showrunner Steve Blackman and receiving support from the production. The storyline made the character’s transition part of the series, rather than removing Page from a role he had already been playing.
Pageboy: a memoir published in 2023
Page’s memoir, Pageboy: A Memoir, was published in June 2023. It recounts his childhood, acting career, identity, relationships and experiences in Hollywood from his perspective. Interviews about the book, including those with The Guardian and ABC News, offer additional context, but the memoir itself is his first-person account rather than a comprehensive history of the film industry.
Film and writing
Page has also discussed an interest in writing and appeared in the independent feature Close to You. His career since 2020 includes work across different formats; these milestones are selected examples, not a complete account of his projects.
What is Elliot Page doing now?
In a June 24, 2026 interview with Democracy Now!, Page discussed growing up in Halifax with few affirming examples of queer people and his involvement in Second Nature, a documentary directed by Drew Denny about gender and sexuality in nonhuman animals. Page said participating in the documentary felt healing. It is the most recent dated development in the sources cited here; it should not be read as a complete list of his current or upcoming work.

How Page has spoken about identity and public debate
Page has used interviews to speak about trans visibility and public discussion. In the 2023 ABC News interview, he said, “There’s no debate to trans people’s existence — full stop,” and added, “We’re real.” His comments reflect his own advocacy and perspective; they should not be treated as a substitute for the diversity of views and experiences among trans people.
Across his public timeline, acting remains central: Page began as a child performer, became widely known through Juno, continued in a major television series, and has also written and participated in documentary work. His own reflections describe how coming out affected his relationship to performing, while the documented credits show a career that continued across film and television.
