Fortnite creators can now build and publish Star Wars islands inside Fortnite using Epic’s official toolkit and approved Lucasfilm assets. To publish, creators must join the Fortnite Developer Program and accept additional Star Wars terms; the license does not grant permission to use Star Wars intellectual property outside Fortnite.
What the Fortnite Star Wars creator program allows
Epic’s 2026 announcement describes a licensed toolkit for making Star Wars experiences with Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) or Fortnite Creative. The available assets include approved characters, environments, vehicles and other materials. Star Wars islands became publishable through Creator Portal on May 1, 2026, alongside the Star Wars Game Collection launch in Fortnite’s Discover area, according to Epic’s creator announcement.
This is a permission to make experiences within Fortnite under the program’s rules—not a general license to reuse Star Wars characters, art, sounds or other intellectual property in an unrelated game, video or product.
How to publish a Star Wars island
- Enroll in Epic’s Fortnite Developer Program.
- In Creator Portal, opt into the additional Star Wars terms before publishing.
- Build with UEFN or Fortnite Creative, using only the Star Wars assets Epic makes available through UEFN and only as provided for the island and its promotion.
- Follow the Star Wars Brand Rules when naming, describing and promoting the island, including the required Disney rights disclaimer in its description.
Epic’s 2026 announcement lists four Star Wars UEFN starter islands, two Creative flat-grid islands and more than 230 Star Wars sound effects added in its April 1 update. These are Epic’s rollout figures, not independent assessments of the tools or the finished islands.

Rules for assets, branding and promotion
Use the assets as supplied
The Star Wars Brand Rules limit creators to the Star Wars assets made available through UEFN. They prohibit extracting, copying, selling or redistributing those assets. Having access to a toolkit does not transfer ownership: Disney retains rights in its Star Wars intellectual property and assets. The rules also state that a Disney Derivative Work is subject to assignment of rights to Disney under the terms they specify.
Keep third-party IP out
The Brand Rules prohibit third-party intellectual property in a Star Wars island and in its promotion—even when the third-party rights holder has given permission. They also restrict use of logos, film and game titles, and promotional materials. Describe the island accurately and do not suggest Disney endorses it.

Can creators earn money from Star Wars islands?
Epic says Star Wars islands share 20% of their engagement payout with The Walt Disney Company. The same announcement says these islands do not support in-island transactions. The Brand Rules separately describe a 30% Disney share for in-island transaction payout under the agreement; that provision should not be confused with the announced engagement-payout share or treated as evidence that transactions are enabled for Star Wars islands. See Epic’s creator announcement and the Brand Rules for their respective terms.
What happens if an island breaks the rules?
Epic and Disney enforce the Brand Rules. Epic may remove an island that violates them; the rules also say violations can make an island ineligible for engagement payouts and lead to further restrictions. Creators should review the live rules and applicable terms before publishing, since program requirements and payout details can change.

Examples of Star Wars experiences in Fortnite
Epic’s named examples show different kinds of play: Escape Vader is a four-player co-op survival game, while Droid Tycoon focuses on building and customizing droids. In a separate August 2026 announcement, Epic described Smugglers Gambit, an island connected to Disney Parks’ Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction, with linked ride credits and Fortnite progression for eligible participants. That is a distinct collaboration, not evidence that creator-made islands generally connect to physical parks. Details are in Epic’s August announcement.
