Elton John and Brandi Carlile released Who Believes In Angels? on April 4, 2025, through Island EMI Records. It is a joint studio album—not a guest appearance on a solo record—with lyrics by Carlile and Bernie Taupin and production and co-writing by Andrew Watt. The title track arrived with the album announcement on February 5, 2025.
When did Who Believes In Angels? come out?
The album was announced on February 5, 2025, and released April 4, 2025, on Island EMI Records. Elton John’s announcement paired the reveal with the release of the title track. The original promotion also included a one-night London Palladium event scheduled for March 26, 2025; that event has passed.
The project took shape at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles. According to Universal Music Canada’s announcement, the team started from a blank slate in October 2023 and wrote and recorded the album in 20 days. Elton John’s official song-by-song feature places the recording period from mid-October to early November 2023.
Is it an Elton John album or a Brandi Carlile album?
It is a collaborative album, with songs led by both artists. Carlile described its scope in Elton John’s official song-by-song feature: “This is not a side-project. This is Elton’s next album, and this is my next album.” John called it the start of his “career Mark 2” in the February 5 announcement. Those are the artists’ own descriptions of the project, rather than independent critical assessments.

The writing and performances reflect that shared approach. Carlile and Taupin contributed lyrics, while Watt co-wrote and produced. Who made the album?
Andrew Watt served as producer and co-writer, as well as a creative mediator between the collaborators. The official store identifies Chad Smith, Pino Palladino and Josh Klinghoffer among the musicians backing the project. Universal Music Canada characterized the album’s range as including ballads, rock and roll, pop, country-hued Americana and synth-heavy psychedelia; that description comes from the label announcement.
