Emma Chamberlain wore a custom Courrèges blazer dress with a dramatically open back to the 2025 Met Gala. What did Emma Chamberlain wear to the 2025 Met Gala?
Chamberlain’s red-carpet outfit was a custom design by Courrèges, the French fashion house. Vanity Fair described it as navy pinstripe crepe with hand embroidery, a deconstructed suiting silhouette, sleeveless construction and an open back. Teen Vogue characterized the back as an “ultra deep plunge” and highlighted the exposed lower back.
The event took place on May 5, 2025, celebrating the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute exhibition Superfine: Tailoring Black Style under the dress code “Tailored for You.” The blazer-dress shape brought the tailoring reference to the front of Chamberlain’s look; the open back made its silhouette distinctive. Vanity Fair reported it was Courrèges’s first time dressing a Met attendee under artistic director Nicolas Di Felice.
How were the accessories and beauty look styled?
Teen Vogue reported that Chamberlain paired the dress with matching tulle tights and sheer gloves, layered with silver rings and bracelets. She also wore stacked earrings and ’90s-style rectangular silver-frame glasses. Her beauty look included a spiky blonde pixie, smoky eye, mauve lipstick and blush.

Vanity Fair reported that vintage jewelry, watches and eyeglasses sourced from eBay completed the looks. Marie Claire noted that Chamberlain had shopped vintage for years and had finally sourced vintage pieces for her Met look. The coverage does not identify exact accessory models or establish that the same pieces are currently available.
Why did Chamberlain change into a second outfit?
Later in the evening, Chamberlain changed into another Courrèges look: a hand-embroidered navy crepe miniskirt, an asymmetrical white cady shirt and low heels. She explained the practical reason to Vanity Fair: changing was “mainly just about [finding] something that I can move in that’s reminiscent of the carpet look, worn with some sort of comfortable shoe.”

Before the event, she told Vanity Fair, “It’s definitely my longest day of the whole year, that’s for sure.” The second outfit kept the navy-and-tailored references while offering a different, more mobile silhouette for the evening and interviews.

Chamberlain also spoke about finding vintage pieces for the occasion.
