Spoilers for Dune: Prophecy Season 1, Episode 2, “Two Wolves.” Valya sends Lila into the life-threatening Agony to reach Mother Raquella’s ancestral memories, while Desmond Hart’s growing influence threatens the Sisterhood’s hold over the Corrino court. The episode ends with Lila’s fate unconfirmed and Desmond resisting Valya’s Voice.
What happens in “Two Wolves”?
At Wallach IX, the Sisterhood tries to make sense of Reverend Mother Kasha’s death. Valya reads the apparent burning as a sign that Mother Raquella’s prophecy is coming to pass. With Emperor Javicco increasingly impressed by Desmond Hart, Valya needs answers—and a way to protect the Sisterhood’s influence.
Valya leaves Tula to manage the Sisterhood and presses her to put Lila through the Agony. Lila is descended from Raquella, making her a possible route to the ancestral memories Valya hopes to access. Tula resists: she loves Lila like a daughter and does not want to force her into a perilous rite. Lila ultimately chooses it herself, partly because she hopes to reach her mother.
What does Lila learn in the Agony?
The Agony is a poison ritual that can open access to Other Memory—the inherited memories of a person’s female ancestors. It is dangerous, not a guaranteed passage to useful knowledge. In Lila’s vision, Mother Raquella speaks through her and delivers a warning:

“The key to the reckoning is one born twice, once in blood and once in spice. A revenant full of scars. A weapon born of war. On a path too short.”
The vision then turns threatening when Dorotea appears. The episode ends without confirming whether Lila survives, so her condition remains unresolved. The prophecy’s language evokes someone returned from apparent death and shaped by war, but it does not explain every clue or settle what happens next. Nerdist’s episode recap reproduces the prophecy and describes the vision.

Why is Desmond Hart gaining power at court?
On Salusa Secundus, Valya brings Theodosia to court and tries to keep Princess Ynez close to the Sisterhood. But Desmond has confessed to killing Pruwet Richese, then demonstrated a power that catches the Emperor’s attention. He presents himself as committed to the Imperium, and Javicco’s growing trust in him puts the Sisterhood’s influence at risk.
The court’s struggle is tied to control of spice as well as access to the Emperor. The episode also shows the rebellion forming against imperial control of spice: Kieran Atreides is involved with the rebels, while Sister Mikaela operates among them as an agent of the Sisterhood. That double position complicates Valya’s strategy—the Sisterhood is maneuvering among forces whose interests do not necessarily align with its own.

What does the ending reveal about Valya and Desmond?
In their final confrontation, Desmond tells Valya that the Corrino court no longer needs the Sisterhood. When she tries to command him with the Voice, he resists. That is a direct challenge to Valya’s authority and leaves her political position exposed.
The episode does not establish how Desmond can resist the Voice, or the full limits of his power. His story of being swallowed by a sandworm on Arrakis and returning changed makes him a plausible match for the prophecy’s “born twice” and “born of war” clues. That connection is an interpretation, not a complete explanation of his abilities or his eventual role.
