Dwayne Johnson has linked his slimmer appearance to preparing for Lizard Music, in which he is set to play Chicken Man. His quip that the transformation means “eating less chicken” was a joke—not a published diet plan. No reliable figure for how much weight he lost for the role has been reported.
Why did Dwayne Johnson lose weight?
Entertainment reports in September 2025 tied Johnson’s slimmer look to his preparation for Lizard Music, an adaptation of Daniel Pinkwater’s novel. Johnson described himself as excited to transform for the part and said, “I still have a long way to go.” Forbes, Variety, and CNN, syndicated by KTVZ, all connected the change in appearance to the role.
Who is Chicken Man?
Chicken Man is an eccentric, whimsical man in his seventies, according to Variety’s account of Johnson’s remarks at a Toronto International Film Festival career-retrospective appearance. The character’s best friend is a chicken. Johnson said he was looking forward to transforming for the role, following his preparation for The Smashing Machine.
What did Johnson mean by “eating less chicken”?
Johnson joked that becoming Chicken Man meant “eating less chicken.” Forbes and Variety reported the remark in the context of the character and his transformation. It does not reveal what Johnson actually eats, how much he eats, or how he trains. The reports do not establish a calorie target, meal schedule, workout routine, diet product, or medical reason for his appearance change.

How does this compare with his transformation for The Smashing Machine?
The two reported figures describe different things: the 30-pound number is a muscle gain for Johnson’s role as Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine, not an amount he lost for Lizard Music. Forbes reported that prior-role gain in 2025. No cited report gives a verified number of pounds lost for Chicken Man.
| Film role | Reported physical change | What the reporting establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Mark Kerr in The Smashing Machine | 30 pounds of muscle gained | Forbes reported this figure in 2025; it concerns preparation for that earlier role. |
| Chicken Man in Lizard Music | No verified amount of weight lost stated | Forbes, Variety, and CNN/KTVZ connect the slimmer appearance to the role but do not quantify a loss. |
What is known—and not known—about the change
The public explanation in these reports is role preparation. They do not document Johnson’s exact weight change, method, or personal health outcome. His appearance and a brief joke are not enough to infer a weight-loss regimen or to treat his preparation for a film role as health advice.
