Lucasfilm announced the series on April 4, 2024, and it arrived on Disney+ on May the Fourth that year.
What is Tales of the Empire?
Created by Dave Filoni, the series is an anthology in the style of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi. Its six short episodes revisit previously untold moments in the lives of two characters during the Empire’s reign: Nightsister Morgan Elsbeth and former Jedi Barriss Offee. The official description calls them warriors on “divergent paths.” StarWars.com’s launch announcement introduces that premise.
Filoni also served as supervising director and executive producer, alongside executive producers Athena Yvette Portillo and Carrie Beck. Josh Rimes is co-executive producer, and Alex Spotswood is senior producer.
When did it come out, and where can you watch it?
Tales of the Empire premiered on May 4, 2024. StarWars.com announced the date with a trailer on April 4 and confirmed the launch on May 4. The official series page names Disney+ as its streaming home. Catalog availability can vary by territory and change over time, so check your local Disney+ catalog for current access.

How many episodes are there?
There are six episodes, divided evenly between the two leads: the first three follow Morgan Elsbeth, and the final three follow Barriss Offee. The trailer announcement describes it as a six-part anthology.
Who are the two main characters?
Morgan Elsbeth: from Dathomir to Corvus
Morgan’s three episodes explore her Nightsister roots on Dathomir, the start of her alliance with Grand Admiral Thrawn, and how she establishes herself on Corvus. Diana Lee Inosanto returned to voice Morgan, a role she had also played in live action. The character-focused StarWars.com interview with Inosanto discusses her return to the role.

Barriss Offee: a former Jedi in the Inquisitorius
Barriss’s arc begins after her imprisonment and picks up soon after the Season 5 finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. She was once a Jedi Padawan and friend to Ahsoka Tano; she later orchestrated the Jedi Temple bombing, framed Ahsoka, confessed, and was imprisoned. The Tales of the Empire trailer revealed that she was later recruited into the Inquisitorius. Meredith Salenger returned as Barriss. StarWars.com’s account of Barriss Offee covers her earlier story, while Salenger’s interview discusses returning to the character.
How do the stories connect to the Empire?
The anthology uses two very different relationships with Imperial power. Morgan’s story traces a survivor’s rise from her Nightsister past toward an alliance with Thrawn and influence on Corvus. Barriss’s follows a former Jedi, already imprisoned for her actions, as she enters the Inquisitorius. The series frames them as distinct character journeys rather than a simple good-versus-evil pairing.

You can follow the broad setup from the series itself, but The Clone Wars Season 5 provides the context for Barriss’s friendship with Ahsoka, the Temple bombing, and her imprisonment. The new episodes pick up soon after that season’s finale. Morgan’s arc has a different focus: her Nightsister history, relationship with Thrawn, and position on Corvus.
