He was speaking about returning as Raghuvaran in the sequel, VIP 2.
What Dhanush said about Raghuvaran
“Even after the completion of Vellailla Pattadhari, I was still not ready to come out of Raghuvaran’s world,” Dhanush told Scroll.in. He added: “The characters stayed with me and I didn’t feel like coming out of that space.” The remarks appeared in an interview by Sruthi Ganapathy Raman, published on July 26, 2017, while Dhanush was promoting VIP 2. Read the Scroll.in interview.
The interview headline uses the wording “VIP Raghuvaran’s world,” while Dhanush’s quoted sentence refers to “Raghuvaran’s world.” His point was his continuing attachment to the character after the first film, not a claim that the sequel had already been released.
Why he returned for VIP 2
Dhanush said he had decided to make a sequel and sketched its plot, which developed around Vasundhara, a corporate figure played by Kajol. He said Kajol was his first choice for the role and that he had a bound script ready when he and director Soundarya Rajinikanth agreed to collaborate.

In the sequel, Raghuvaran faces Vasundhara. The Scroll interview described the film in 2017 as planned for Tamil and dubbed Hindi release in August of that year, and named Amala Paul, Samuthirakani and Saranya Ponvannan among the cast. That was the release plan reported at the time, not an update on present-day availability.
How the sequel changes Raghuvaran
Soundarya Rajinikanth said she kept the character’s core intact: “I have retained the essence of Raghuvaran’s character completely.” In a July 19, 2017 interview with Cinema Express, she described him as relatable while noting that his circumstances had changed: he was no longer unemployed and was married. In the same Scroll.in interview, Dhanush said, “There are only two parameters I look at before choosing a script,” identifying them as “Characterisation and the screenplay.” His explanation connects the importance he placed on Raghuvaran’s character with the decision to continue the story, without suggesting that the quotation alone explains every creative choice behind VIP 2.
