The fifth episode of the Hashira Training Arc is titled “I Even Ate Demons.” It opens with Tanjiro completing Mitsuri’s flexibility training, then shifts into a much harsher mood as he moves on to Obanai Iguro’s session. The official episode synopsis frames Iguro’s training as frightening and unresolved; a June 9, 2024 review from Den of Geek describes the more detailed scene progression.

Who does Tanjiro train with in episode 5?
Mitsuri Kanroji
Tanjiro completes Mitsuri’s flexibility exercises. The lighter material offers a brief contrast to the more severe training that follows.
Obanai Iguro
Tanjiro next reports to Iguro for sword-form correction drills. The confined, intimidating setting makes the session feel psychologically pressuring as well as physically demanding. Iguro’s anger and the shift from Mitsuri’s training establish a daunting new challenge for Tanjiro.

What happens between Sanemi and Genya?
Tanjiro encounters Wind Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa and Genya. Sanemi’s hostility escalates into a physical attack, and Tanjiro steps in to protect Genya, narrowly stopping Sanemi from killing him. The confrontation exposes the brothers’ strained relationship and puts Tanjiro’s impulse to defend and encourage his fellow trainees at the center of the episode. Den of Geek’s reading of Tanjiro’s optimism as a potential strength for the Corps is an interpretation, rather than a stated outcome.
How does episode 5 end?
The closing points toward Tanjiro’s next stage of training under Stone Hashira Gyomei Himejima. It is a setup for the transition ahead, not a recap of the events of episode 6. The official episode 5 synopsis specifically ends with Tanjiro heading to Iguro; the later transition is described in the episode review.

The official English anime site lists a limited-edition complete Hashira Training Arc Blu-ray set released April 22, 2025. It collects all eight episodes across three Blu-ray discs and includes four soundtrack CDs, English and Japanese audio, and English subtitles. This is an arc collection that includes episode 5, not a standalone episode disc. Check the official Blu-ray listing for current availability and price.
