Spotify introduced DJ Livi on July 17, 2024, as the Spanish-language voice of its personalized DJ feature. Livi is not a separate app or music service: eligible Premium users can choose her voice inside Spotify DJ, where the feature selects and narrates music for them. Availability depends on the user’s market and account, so a Spanish-speaking country or Premium subscription alone does not guarantee access.
What Spotify launched—and what Livi is
Spotify DJ is the product: a personalized listening experience that selects music and adds spoken commentary. DJ X is its original English-language voice; DJ Livi is its Spanish-language voice option. Spotify announced Livi on July 17, 2024, when DJ was described as a beta feature. It was the first language added beyond English. Spotify’s announcement explains that the experience combines personalization technology, generative AI, editorial expertise and an AI-generated voice modeled on a real Spotify employee.
That employee is Olivia “Livi” Quiroz Roa, a senior music editor based in Mexico City. Spotify says she curates popular playlists and helped launch its EQUAL program in Mexico. The voice is based on Quiroz Roa; this does not mean she personally hosts each listening session or selects every track live. DJ is an AI-assisted, narrated recommendation experience, not a live radio broadcast or an open-ended human DJ service.
Spotify’s current support material labels the Spanish option “Spanish (Mexico) – DJ Livi.” That identifies the available voice option; it does not establish that Spotify offers separate voices for every Spanish-speaking region or that the voice supports every regional dialect.

Where Livi launched—and what that says about availability now
At launch, Spotify said Spanish-language DJ would be available to Premium listeners in markets where DJ was available and was expanding to Spain and selected Latin American markets. The named markets were:
- Spain
- Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic
- Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico
- Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela
This is Spotify’s 2024 rollout list, not a verified current country-by-country availability list. The announcement’s broad appeal to Spanish-speaking listeners should not be read as a promise of universal access. Spotify’s current support page says DJ is available in a limited number of languages; in practice, Livi is an option only where DJ and the Spanish language setting are exposed to an eligible account. Spotify’s current DJ help page is the relevant guide to the feature, while the launch announcement records the original rollout.

How to turn on DJ Livi
- Check that the Spotify account is Premium. Spotify currently lists DJ as a Premium feature.
- Open Spotify and search for “DJ.” Open the DJ result and start playback. Depending on the app interface, DJ may also appear on Home or in the Now Playing view.
- Open the DJ menu. Tap the three horizontal dots on iOS or the three vertical dots on Android.
- Choose “DJ language.” Select “Spanish (Mexico) – DJ Livi” if it appears. The available choices documented by Spotify also include “English – DJ X.”
The control changes DJ’s spoken language, not the language of the whole Spotify app. Changing the phone or app language alone will not select Livi. Spotify’s language-options support page lists the named voices.
What DJ can do today
The 2024 announcement focused on DJ’s ability to tailor music to a listener, mix familiar favorites with discoveries and add spoken context. Spotify’s current help page describes a more interactive DJ experience: users can type or speak requests, choose suggested prompts, ask for a different mood, and request music based on an idea or listening history. It also says users can ask questions related to podcasts or audiobooks, and make requests such as adding content to the queue or following an artist. These are capabilities of the current DJ product; they should not be assumed to have all been part of Livi’s original launch.

Listeners can switch between Spanish – DJ Livi and English – DJ X through the DJ language menu when both options are offered. The language setting does not translate the Spotify interface or guarantee that every request will be fulfilled. Recommendations remain shaped by Spotify’s catalog, licensing, personalization signals and the account’s listening history. People who prefer uninterrupted music may also find spoken commentary intrusive.
Why Livi might not appear
Premium is necessary, but it is not sufficient: Spotify DJ must also be available in the account’s market, and the language option must be enabled for that account. Feature rollouts and app versions can also affect what appears. If DJ or Livi is missing, work through these checks:

- Confirm the account’s plan is Premium.
- Update Spotify, then search for “DJ” rather than looking only on Home or searching for “Livi.”
- If DJ opens but Livi is absent, look in the DJ-specific three-dot menu under “DJ language,” not the general app settings.
- Check the account country or region and whether DJ is offered there. Spotify says country settings affect availability and pricing; account changes may require a payment method issued in the new country, and the new-country option appears only when the user is actually there. See Spotify’s country and region guidance.
- Restart the app after updating and check again. If the option remains unavailable, Spotify may not have enabled it for that market or account.
A VPN or falsified country setting is not a sound workaround. Spotify’s regional guidance ties service access and account changes to the user’s actual location and may require a locally issued payment method.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the feature does—and does not—promise
Livi makes Spotify’s personalized DJ experience available with a Spanish-language voice, but it is not a standalone AI assistant, a new subscription, or a live radio host. The feature is Premium-only according to Spotify’s current documentation, remains described as beta in its Premium benefits information, and is limited by market and language availability. The “Spanish (Mexico)” label is the documented option; Spotify’s support material does not establish separate regional voices or support for every Spanish dialect. See Spotify’s Premium benefits page for its current beta positioning.

For listeners deciding whether to try it, the practical questions are whether DJ is available on the account, whether they want spoken Spanish commentary, and whether a personalized stream with occasional requests suits their listening habits. It is not equivalent to a human DJ who can freely respond to any request, and its recommendations can only draw on Spotify’s available catalog and the signals the service uses to personalize listening.
